One of our LOL moments came care of The San Francisco Chronicle’s Business Report section.
Five stars and the little man jumping out of the chair for the headlines on top of the story discussing companies rumored to be interested in buying Yahoo’s core business.
The newest name to emerge is probably what prompted the creative headline writing.
Per Wendy Lee’s article in the Chronicle, “The Daily Mail, known for its salacious stories, has acknowledged considering a bid for Yahoo.”
While the first headline was par for the course with its reference to the check in the mail, it was the subhead that got us going:
Nobody was expecting the British acquisition.
This appears to be a play on Monty Python’s “The Spanish Inquisition” series of sketches where the principal catchphrase was, “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!”.
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise, fear and surprise; two chief weapons, fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency! Er, among our chief weapons are: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and near fanatical devotion to the Pope! Um, I’ll come in again…”
Brilliant, right?!
We applaud the creative headline writing. Someone was having fun on the job for sure.

Special thanks to DaverD who tipped us about the headline funniness.
