Chevy Influences Early Start Time of World Series 3rd Game

world-series-2010Here’s a move that brings back a jingle that has tons of ear-worm potential. GM’s Chevrolet, which has long been associated with baseball, hot dogs and apple pie, has somehow gotten Major League Baseball and Fox to start Game Three of the World Series at 6:57 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 30 — the earliest start to a World Series game since Game Six of the 1987 World Series.

An AdAge story by Brian Steinberg, said the deal put into place allows Chevy to look family-friendly and gives Fox the financial security it might require.

“We’ve said over the years that if advertisers were willing to support earlier starts at prime-time levels, we’d be able to begin games earlier,” Eric Shanks, president-Fox Sports, said in a prepared statement.

The numbers game is what has made the World Series not accessible to many younger fans (and older ones with early wake-up calls) because of the late nights. The inventory of ad slots before the 8pm Primetime window are less expensive. Looks like Chevy is willing to pay more for the time shift.

An interesting experiment indeed. Game 3 of a 7 game series may not be such a draw — especially up against College Football.
