Another week has gone by and now the @TheSEA attendees have started to gather around RC’s spot in anticipation as they are now very much hooked on finding out
WHAT. HAPPENS. NEXT.
There is murmuring and many side conversations with motioning towards the screen (a SHEET hung up near the tree for projecting images).
The BOOMBOX JUKEBOX had been playing RC the STORYTELLER’s “theme song” — “Get Ready for This” which is usually accompanied by images of MR SQUEEK the DOORKAT / BREAK DANCING KAT doing his thing.

And then… The music fades. The audience naturally hushes while attention is focused on RC’s spot… but he isn’t there… yet.
The BOOMBOX JUKEBOX is NOW playing another catchy tune now… lyrics are projected on the screen.

The image on the screen changes to that of a napkin with words and images.
Houdini Hound & Joy…
And from the back of the group, with the voice of a GAME SHOW HOST, these words are heard…
BREWPUB WORKER
RC! Tell ‘em what he won!
The image on screen now dissolves to the SKETCH of THE WORLD OF JOY which it holds of several “beats” before switching to a very nice “SLIDE” (PPT) version of the same image.

More murmuring as the gatherers study the screen.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Well guys! Not to jump right in or anything… but how about if… I jump right in?

Alrightly then… First true to my name, a REWIND.

Miraculously? Perhaps… we’ll talk about that another time. For now we’ll just say that thanks to the arrival of THE NIWASHI, the HOUDINI HOUND found temporary accommodations in…
He points to the screen.
RC THE STORYTELLER
THE WORLD OF JOY…
Joy for him…
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
[sarcastic tone]
The lady’s van… the rescue… That’s a WORLD of JOY?? Come on, now…
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Shush, you!
RC smiles…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Joyful transportation to… Dig this…

You’ll see here that… in the neighborhood where THE HOUND landed… resides a lady named… JOY… for real.

The NIWASHI just so happens to live in a very cute neighborhood… tree-lined streets… a mix that includes PALM trees — shout out to California dreamin… and…
More close ups on particular aspects of the slide…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Super-friendly people … the neighbors… like … so kind and warm and… Think of it like “CHEERS” — village edition… yeah that’s it… a super friendly village that’s welcoming … seems to be wired for hospitality.
A lot of bobbing heads and murmuring.
And that’s what HOUDINI HOUND won… a home stay in THE WORLD OF JOY…
RC THE STORYTELLER
And that’s what HOUDINI HOUND won… a home stay in THE WORLD OF JOY… a world where BELLY RUBS and smiles are readily available…

Sarcasm noted, the others jump in.

Shush, you!
Focus is now shifted away from the screen (as it fades out) and RC lays out the story game plan.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Happy Hound had a truly delightful stay with THE NIWASHI… in the WORLD OF JOY… what he won… HOWEVER…
The audience starts to groan…
RC THE STORYTELLER
You recall from last time… the only way THE NIWASHI got sign-off from her husband on the arrangement… the HOMESTAY HOUND… was… a DEADLINE for placement. They were FOSTERING in search of… FOREVER HOME. Else… a SHELTER was in the HOUND’s future.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Aww….
Just then, the power in RC’s section of the BREWPUB goes out. He’s talking without amplification. No-one can hear.
All is silent.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Whoops! (pause) Okay… That’s not…
He looks around and sees that the area where the TACO TRUCK is parked, is well-lit. And so is the section where pints are poured.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Let’s take a BREAK… We’ll call it an INTERMISSION… Go grab some grub! Gotta investigate if this is temporary.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Gotcha!
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1

RC THE STORYTELLER
No thanks… Oh… Please tell TACO GUY to give you guys the RC discount…
AUDIENCE IN UNISON

INT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
In a side room near where RC’s Gatherers gather, is KIMBA THE DRIVER (AKA Kimberly the Happy Barista). On a stainless steel table, two rectangular boxes are stacked. And on a jumbo rolling cart, is a TURBO CHEF OVEN on loan.
BREWPUB WORKER
Whoops! (pause) How bad is it?
KIMBA
Only RC’s area, it seems… And… Ah… He’s got them moving towards the Taco Truck and inside for beverages — all well-lit.
BREWPUB WORKER
Okay. Cool. It was… a guess on where to plug this BAD BOY in… Let me see if…
KIMBA
Make the magic happen!
BREWPUB WORKER
You did half by obtaining those treats.
Kimba bows.
KIMBA
Be careful. I’ll be back.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB – FOOD TRUCK AREA
Kimba winds her way around the folks who are happily munching away, and locates RC. Their eyes meet.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Can you believe… Power out just as…
Kimba holds up her phone with a picture of “THE GOODS.”
RC THE STORYTELLER
Are those…?
Kimba nods.
RC THE STORYTELLER
You did it!
KIMBA THE DRIVER
Yeah… A little scary on The 17 this time of day… but yeah.
He borrows her phone to get a closer look.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So awesome! You got… the heart shaped ones we saw…?!
KIMBA THE DRIVER
Yup! MR SQUEEK told me you became acquainted with these during your visit to THE WORLD OF JOY. I’ve never seen HEART-SHAPED churros before…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Where are they now? Can I…?
She motions for him to follow her.
KIMBA THE DRIVER
Come on back…
They walk towards the back of the BREW PUB where a USED TURBOCHEF is perched on a stainless steel cart.
Used TurboChef…
A smiling BREWPUB WORKER greets them.
BREWPUB WORKER
So dumb. But… when given 50-50, I most often choose wrong.
RC is handed a toasty-warm, heart-shaped churro. He smells it and then takes a bite.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Wow! So… Like YOU made them fresh.
Another heart-shaped is split in two: Kimba takes a bite and so does the Brewpub worker.
BREWPUB WORKER
Fantastico!
KIMBA
Right?
RC has just polished his off and points to the OVEN.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Whoa!
KIMBA THE DRIVER
Client… Driver gig… lent it to us. It was collecting dust in his restaurant supply shop on the Eastside. Total score!
RC THE STORYTELLER
Nice!
The Brewpub worker is marking an outlet with BLUE TAPE.
BREWPUB WORKER
For future reference. Sorry ‘bout that…
Points to RC’s area which is now back to normal.
Looking at the TURBO CHEF and back to the SCREEN, RC pipes up.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Not feelin’ it. Gotta… PENCILS DOWN for today… Re-starting would be too…
BREWPUB WORKER
Sorry… so, so sorry.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Don’t be… They’re gonna love the CHURROS. You made the MAGIC happen… Many thanks!
He bows. Kimba points towards the Taco Truck.
KIMBA
Your PEEPs are probably looking for you. We’ll be over in a jiff– these will fire up fast!
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
After delivering the piping hot CHURROS, Kimba heads over to RC’s corner to start tidying up. She is joined by the BREWPUB WORKER.
KIMBA
Wonder if he’ll remember where he left off… He’s kinda stream-of-conscious when it comes to storytelling.
The worker smiles and points to a tripod in the back.
BREWPUB WORKER
Got it… Old school but… Been taping the sessions for archival purposes…
KIMBA
Tape?
BREWPUB WORKER
It’s okay… you can borrow the camera for PLAYBACK. It’s got a line out… connect to TV MONITOR.

KIMBA

BREWPUB WORKER

KIMBA
She comes in from time to time with her husband, GEAR GUY…

KIMBA

The worker has now returned to unplug the TURBO CHEF, when a folded over brown paper bag comes into view.
