Our #SCMF discovery…

We learned about this fantastic woman: Maria Mitchell, decorated astronomer, Vassar College professor, and staunch advocate of women in science.

We especially need imagination in science. It is not all mathematics, nor logic, but is somewhat beauty and poetry.

Largely an autodidact, she became famous in 1847 when she discovered a comet, and in 1848 she became the first woman elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In her later life she devoted much of her time to the advancement of women.

Jedemi says, “Come on down!” We look forward to having her visit us at the cafe and maybe stay for a while.
