When & Where’s the Party?

Greetings, Folks!

Thanks for your interest in the upcoming Dolores ‘itas Party. Please read on for the latest developments.

WHERE (AND WHEN) IS THE PARTY??

INT. JEDEMI HQ KITCHEN

It’s early morning and Annie is scribbling away in her journal.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

A familiar sound in an unfamiliar location.

Annie shakes it off and keeps her flow going — releasing all kinds of ideas and thoughts.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

The second round of “Taps” puts a smile on her face and she incorporates why in her journal.

JOURNAL
So weird. The sound of Tap-Tap-Tap
and my eyes go right to 1905…
Garage door open and Dolores
tapping her cane as she waits for
me (”Her Uber”) to pick her up. I’d
jump out, engine running, to help
her in and then she’d say something
like…”traffic today?” Not mad…
but you’d get her point. And I would
start to apologize, but she’d cut
me off and motion with her cane for
me to get a move on. Yup. That…

Before Annie could finish THAT particular flow, it happened again.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

MS. DCG
For goodness sake! What the…?
Could you just…?
Listening now finally? Great… So
what’s the deal with the party? We
promised and…

Calmly, Annie looks in the direction of the voice, and stands up to stretch.

ANNIE
So, so sorry, Boss. Had a lot on my
mind and, well… hang on.

Annie sits down and quickly scribbles something else in her journal.

JOURNAL
Where’s the party?
I want to free my soul.
Where’s the party? I want to lose
control…

MS. DCG
Did you just…? Madonna? I’m
hanging on for Madonna?

ANNIE
Again, sorry Boss, but when the
spirit moves me, now more than
ever, I’ve gotta be obliging.

MS. DCG
Oh… Okay. I really don’t want to
impede the flow. Are you going to
draw pictures too? We can talk
later.

ANNIE
Maybe not right now, Boss. Better
that I pay attention and let you in
on my thoughts regarding your
party.

MS. DCG
Thanks… So… Got a date in mind?

ANNIE
Well, HD granted me a week off in
their run-up to Spring.
Not sure why I got short-shifted
again, but figured it was — the
universe’s call… so we could get
this party started.

MS. DCG
Go on…

ANNIE
Looking like mid-March. So we’re
catching it post-Mardi Gras, pre-
March Madness.

MS. DCG
Venue?

ANNIE
Working that out. Acoustics are the
challenge. I want people to be able
to hear each other. You told me
about being at events where you’d
just smile and focus on your food
because you had no idea what they
were saying… Don’t want that for
your party. So yes on a potential
date / week in March. Location TBD.

MS. DCG
And the food?

ANNIE
You know we’re coming through with
your La Pinata… either on-site or
catered.

MS. DCG
Great! And beverages?

ANNIE
Working that out with Mr David.
Since we are shooting for a mid-day
thing — easier on the parking and
transportation — we are adapting
the concept.

MS. DCG
Well, if David’s doing it, it’ll be
great!

ANNIE
Of course. Now, just thinking through
the logistics. You’ll see a yellow
pad of paper with scribbles.
I’m visual, so you’ll see doodles
too. Anyway, does that…?

MS. DCG
Answer my questions? (pause)
Suitable for now. Curious to hear
more when you…

ANNIE
Get things locked down? Of course,
Boss. We’ll be posting updates for
the invitees too.

MS.DCG
Great and thanks! Now, you better wrap
it up and get going on your run.

ANNIE
Copy that, Boss!

Previous Post below:

Her wish is our command…

Dolores C Goltra (AKA DCG), our super-active, super feisty 97-year old cousin passed away on 8 December. We had an interesting journey over the last 9 months: Starting with her fall in March 2024, to a lengthy stay at the Shadelands skilled nursing facility, to Residential Care, a couple more trips to the hospital, to Danville skilled nursing, to home (finally!!) in October with a full time caregiver. Life was good! She was getting stronger by the day with the help of an awesome support team from Muir Home Health guiding her recovery. Her caregivers sent me pictures of her meals -before and after shots- (Yum!). Healing foods plus a warm comfortable environment… Let’s just say, she was riding the Wave (a fantastical one at that) –as we often told each other.

We also had a pinky shake on “Go ’til you can go no more.”

She knew parts were wearing down. She was ready. Another trip to ER in November sealed the deal.

Which Brings us to…

She said, early and often, that she wanted to throw a party.

That was it.

Oh… and to make sure she was quite dead before they cremated (was a concern she reiterated with those sparkling blue eyes).

We talked about the party and it came to this:

Fajitas and Margaritas!!

That was her go-to “cheat” meal for her birthday and other special occasions.

[Her daily “cheat” was a scone with a strong cup of Peet’s coffee]

So sometime in the hopefully not so distant future, we’ll be able to announce when this party will happen.

We are in the two steps forward, three steps back in our Estate management duties. Frustrating but…

Our philosophy.
