INT. KATIE’S KITCHEN
It’s early morning and KATIE, the former SUIT, is writing away in her JOURNAL.
KATIE’S MUSINGS
It struck me while I was running that… they aren’t having fun. There’s a looseness a flow, if you will… when you are having fun. Something isn’t right.
Heck, I turned off the TV and walked away. In the CFL, it’s 2-and-out, so there’s velocity that kind of helps so that if you are in a “not having fun” rut, you can work your way out of it — perhaps that’s why the game is never truly over and more than 80% of the time you want to be tuned in for the last 3 minutes of the Game and Half.
So my thought– Playground ball. The guys need to huddle up on their own and conjure a bunch of playground-style plays (go deep!) And improvise.
They’ve got a super athletic QB PLUS 3 super receivers PLUS + a fantastic runner / receiver. All great athletes that can probably play better if the five of them put their heads together and create stuff they’ll buy into — and then…
Manage up their coaches. We’re gonna run this… etc. Kinda like the spirit of The Philly Special. In fact, they should revisit it for inspiration.
Think how fun it would be for them… to execute cool plays that they themselves imagined…
They’d be playing for each other NOT just appeasing management. It’s different.
It would be fun to watch and more fun for them instead of this, 3 and out stuff that’s happening. Just sayin’…
As she is completing her thought, RC THE GREMLIN shows up in Katie’s kitchen. He helps himself to some 4am coffee and brings the pot over.
RC THE GREMLIN
Uh… excuse the interruption. Wanna warmup?
Katie, now used to the routine, smiles.
KATIE
Not yet, my friend. Besides, I like the stretch, ya know…
RC THE GREMLIN
Yeah…
Puts the pot down and returns.
RC THE GREMLIN
So… Philly Special, eh?
KATIE
It was fun. It was creative. It energized… so yeah. The guys aren’t watchable right now. So much talent and it feels like… they are in a quandary… follow orders as in the play called, or improvise.
Looks like they’re downshifting and then… the results are bad and the badness spirals. Hard to watch. Hard to listen to… This is their job. They should have fun… enjoy what they are doing! Stoked that they get to PLAY!
RC THE GREMLIN
Whoa! Spoken like…
KATIE
Someone who knows how that “just following orders” feels…
You get busted for being insubordinate — but if what you’re being told just feels wrong … and/or NOT RIGHT… Then… Yucko-bucko!
RC THE GREMLIN
So your preference is…
KATIE
Freestylin’ is way more fun. Understand management’s expectations … and then… find a way to get it done… a way that’s YOUR WAY.
For Philly, the CORE-FIVE need to set the tone.
RC THE GREMLIN
Gotcha! And it seems to me that you found that FUN-FLO over at HD, yes?
KATIE
Yeah. Stuff’s getting done. Making incremental improvements… and indeed I GET TO have fun at the same time living the flex-n-flo lifestyle.
RC THE GREMLIN
I imagine the folks you interact with pick up on the vibe, eh?
Katie nods and then stands to get her refill of 4am coffee. Moving to where her SLABBY THING /iPAD is, she taps the screen and does a GOOGLE SEARCH.
KATIE
Check this out, RC!
On the screen is the trailer for WIM WENDERS “PERFECT DAYS.” RC watches.
KATIE
I don’t remember how I found it, but this movie… fantastical! The lead… pretty much doesn’t talk. He just flows through his day doing a job he loves. He has his routine and is … content… just flowing along.
RC THE GREMLIN
Gotcha!
KATIE
So… I know why … I can see why the guys are struggling… and … we can only hope that one of them gets the clue and they take up playground ball approach loosen up.
Heck, their baseball companions, at home, were playing a bit tight too… against a team with the monster payroll — They gotta playground-it too. Find a way to have fun… more fun to watch.
She jumps back to the iPad and loads up some music.
KATIE
Last year they had clubhouse music that was inspirational — 50 minutes of joy… They need to queue this up.
Katie starts to dancing in the kitchen. RC plays along and then taps her and then PAUSE on the iPad.
RC THE GREMLIN
Full circle moment coming on…
KATIE
Whatcha mean?
RC THE GREMLIN
DOORKAT SQUEEK told me… that before I arrived on the scene, YOU were the one “rutted” … staring at your Slabby Thing not budging… overthinking.
KATIE
Yeah, and then the PLAY reminder came and … here YOU are.
RC THE GREMLIN
Is it true that your breakthrough came from … or maybe the better word is… accelerated… because you shifted to SOUTHIE drawing?

Katie smiles. Shifts her pencil from right to left hand and playfully draws in the air.
KATIE
Actually… yeah… Good point.
RC THE GREMLIN
Thought so… I’m seeing an opportunity… THE CHALKBOARD SESSIONS… today… play you will.
KATIE
Ah! You’re onto something.
Katie returns to her Journal and closes out her thoughts.
KATIE’S MUSINGS
Today… Southie drawing on my iPad, I will. It’s a stander thing and… will enhance my posts. For sure, an opportunity for ME to play. Now I must away…
She closes with her traditional “PENCILS DOWN” sketch, snaps the elastic around her Journal and heads upstairs to change for her WEST CLIFF run.
That’s a wrap…
RC rinses out his cup before exiting. Then he heads over to the Slabby Thing and presses the PLAY on the 2024 Winners Win and notices something.
RC THE GREMLIN
There IS a 2025 version. Gotta let Katie…
He pauses.
RC THE GREMLIN
She’ll find it… And now, my work here is done. (pause) Hmmm… where to next?
