We like this for its Manga meets “Hero’s Journey.” This was the start of our dive into the works of another addition to the LP Gang, Akira Toriyama.
[Note: he wrote & illustrated this Japanese manga series].
A little background… Dragon Ball is actually Toriyama’s take of the classic of Chinese tale “Journey to the West.”

The title of the series threw us… And then we gave in and gave it a read. WHOA!! The lead in this amusing series is a girl robot. Here’s some background on the series that made its debut in February 1980.

While researching Toriyama, we found out he was influenced by Osamu Tezuka who is considered the Walt Disney of Japan. He’s one of our Next-Gen LPs.
In fact, one of our reads (and lay-flat projects) is a manga version of his biography.
