Unable to resist the temptation of a left-behind LAY-FLAT, one of “The Gang” (it’s JOEY this time) pulls an all-nighter. Does he yearn for more? Read on! —The Gang
Note: We introduced “Yosh” in the last post.
The Japanese word “Yosh” is used in manga to convey, “Alright, let’s go!” Or as they say in Katie’s household: “Go means go!”
Above is a short clip that says what we’re saying (and demonstrating): For sure, “yosh” is spontaneous and energetic—a verbal burst of enthusiasm or resolve. We believe if you embrace the DragonBustR Way and it becomes a Way of Life (interwoven), you may find yourself bursting with enthusiasm and resolve.
Now on with the story!
Joey’s DragonBall Adventure…
FADE IN:
INT. JEDEMI CAFE
It’s early morning and the cafe is just waking up. The regulars are shuffling in and out as the day rolls on. The in-house regulars (the LP GANG) have their own morning routine.
But on this particular morning, one of the gang has gone missing — and not the one you’d think.
DOC
Hey ladies! Have you seen JOEY around?
The ladies, DOSSIE & FRANNIE give him a look.
FRANNIE
You lose your running pal?
DOC
Looked in the usual spots.
DOSSIE
That just leaves… the unusual, right?
FRANNIE
Have you asked Frankie?
DOSSIE
Have you found Frankie so you can ask?
They all laugh and Doc gets serious.
DOC
Found Frankie in the lab downstairs. He and Tommie were working on something… Didn’t look too closely.
FRANNIE
Gotcha.
DOSSIE
The office? Did you check Viv’s now Nicole’s office in the back?
DOC
Thought about it. Door was locked so…
Now they both give him a look.
FRANNIE
Not locked now, is it? The morning routine underway.
DOSSIE
Maybe he found another box of reading material for the cart and stumbled into something.
So Doc, with a new sense of hope, bows and then heads back to the now open office.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. JEDEMI CAFE – BACK OFFICE
The door is open a crack. Doc slips in and moves stealthily in case OWNER NICOLE suddenly shows up. He talks to himself.
DOC
Mission is to find Joey without disrupting the AM flow around here.
He eyes a bookshelf and a couple more boxes stacked next to it. Then he sees his eyes —LOST & FOUND.
DOC
I wonder…
When examining the Lost & Found box, he saw a couple of SLABBY THINGs (AKA iPads) had been set aside with a Sticky Note that said:
“DONORS — ADD TO THE LENDING LIBRARY PER VIV”
DOC
Aha! Very interesting. Perhaps…
Before he could complete his thought, he hears a voice… that sounds a bit weary with a tinge of excitement.
THE VOICE
That. Was. Amazing.
The voice gets a little louder, indicating to Doc that it is on the move, so he positions himself to have a view without being seen.
What he sees makes him laugh.
DOC
Aha! This oughta be good…
Then towards THE VOICE he speaks.
DOC
Mornin’ Mr Joey!
Startled, a flashlight rolls out followed by the missing Joey.
JOEY
Doc?
DOC
Yeah Buddy of mine who snuck off without…
Joey is so excited about what he read that he isn’t paying attention do Doc’s ribbing.
JOEY
It’s good! Really REALLY good…!
Points to under the desk.
Doc looks and sees that it is the LAY-FLAT edition of DRAGONBALL Vol 1.
“Found” Lay-Flat…
DOC
That’s the… Wasn’t it going back with Ms KATIE to… KIMBA for her to Read?
JOEY
It’ll get there…
Maybe you should… In fact, I highly recommend you give it a read before we send it over the hill.
DOC
Really? Okay… Now, let’s get out of here.
Joey is eyeing the LAY-FLAT under the desk.
DOC
Fine! We’ll take it with us… And if you don’t mind, let’s head to a sunny spot so you can tell me more.
JOEY
Gotcha! The STOOP?
DOC
Sure! You probably need some fresh air after being in that stuffy room all night.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. JEDEMI CAFE – THE STOOP
Doc and Joey are now outside on the sunny stoop. For a while, Joey is quiet. Doc hangs with him until he’s ready to talk.
JOEY
About last night… Served me right.
DOC
Oh?
JOEY
I did it to myself in a way. I was curious about that DRAGONBALL Lay-Flat so I had our pal Frankie do what he does so well.
DOC
Which part?
JOEY
Dump and Snatch… well that was the plan. The lay-flat hit the floor unnoticed, but just before we could retrieve it…
DOC
Let me guess… It WAS noticed by the Owner when she zipped by…
JOEY
Yup! And she zoomed back to her office with it — sticky noted “for Ms Katie” on it, and placed it near the LOST & FOUND for easy retrieval.
DOC
So then…?
JOEY
Frankie, of course, got bored as his part of the adventure was over. He jetted and I was like — curious.
So right then and there, I began my read — back to front as designed. So fun!
Read Left…
As he’s talking, Doc is flipping the pages of the Lay-Flat and then he stops.
DOC
Ah! And then you got locked in!!
JOEY
In more ways than one. The story? For sure. And then the light went out and the door locked. Fortunately, I found that flashlight with its easy-on button. Positioned it just right and then I…
DOC
Cover-to-cover? With breaks?
JOEY
There are natural breaking points in the story as written…
Doc flips to the CONTENTS and scans.

Nice… roughly 14 pages per Tale.
JOEY
Brilliantly structured. So as needed, I’d rest my eyes.
DOC
Flashlight reading… kinda tough. I get it.
Joey points to the sky. Doc looks up.
DOC
Agree. Natureful light is way better. The paper this is printed on … can stand up to sunlight. Not getting that glare. Nice!
JOEY
Well… You might as well get started. At some point Owner will come looking for it so she can get it back to KATIE for re-distribution.
DOC
Sure thing. And if anyone’s looking for me, let ‘em know I’m here at the STOOP.
JOEY
Will do… and sorry about disappearing on ya…
DOC
I get it. So what’s your GP?
JOEY
Game plan? Well… After my morning MOCHA CHAI, I’ll be doing some homework… on how we can get a hold of the next volumes of this fine adventure.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. JEDEMI CAFE – BACK OFFICE
Owner NICOLE is shuffling through and rearranging some papers on the top of her desk. She pauses and looks towards the bookshelf.
NICOLE
Before I forget, I should get those iPads into today’s flow.
She moves the “ADD TO LENDING LIBRARY PER VIV” stack to her desk.
NICOLE
Huh… I thought there were more.
Actually… I wasn’t really paying attention… just stacked, PostIt-noted, and jammed.
Hearing activity pickup in the Cafe, she zooms away.
NICOLE
Oh well.
FADE OUT
