Welcome to another Yosh! post!
Music has a role here and at JEDEMI as we firmly believe “Music is the Doctor.” That is a reason this post gets Yosh! treatment. Read on! Listen on! And, most of all, Enjoy!! —The Gang
Note: We introduced “Yosh” in the post.
The Japanese word “Yosh” is used in manga to convey, “Alright, let’s go!” Or as they say in Katie’s household: “Go means go!”
Above is a short clip that says what we’re saying (and demonstrating): For sure, “yosh” is spontaneous and energetic—a verbal burst of enthusiasm or resolve. We believe if you embrace the DragonBustR Way and it becomes a Way of Life (interwoven), you may find yourself bursting with enthusiasm and resolve.
Now on with the story!
This time, a special treat and kind of a proof point for.. one thing leading to another. In this case, when you’ve committed to the disciplined approach of regular DRAGONBUSTR BREAKS (those 20-min TimeOuts), at some point creativity gushes in and… well, the output is kinda cool.
INT. CAT & CLOUD
At the comfy VIV TABLE, sits former Suit, KATIE writing away. The words are flowing. The sketches have a flow as well. She’s deep into her prOcess that those around admire but dare not interrupt.
And what’s got Ms Katie so… engaged? What did she see her eyes that needed expression?
Well, it’s apparently every retail employee’s dream… Changing the music!
Well, it’s apparently every retail employee’s dream… Changing the music!
What Katie “saw her eyes” and “heard her ears” makes for a wonderful tale. Let’s listen in…
The MIRACLE IN MARTINEZ! Yeah, that’s the ticket…
KATIE
The MIRACLE IN MARTINEZ! Yeah, that’s the ticket.
She said this slightly out loud as she was writing away with a huge smile on her face.
Just then HAPPY BARISTA KIMBERLY / UBER DRIVER KIMBA walks by Katie’s table.
KIMBA
Hey there. When’d you sneak in?
Katie looks up and acknowledges her friend (and fellow SLABBY THING ARTIST).
KATIE
Uh… don’t know exactly… I had… this… (pause) Just knew I needed to settle down and get it out of my head.
KIMBA
Yes? And…
KATIE
Done! For now anyway. This is usually when I do a walk to recharge before taking on anything else.
KIMBA
Cool… You hungry?
Katie gives her a puzzled look.
KATIE
So focused I kinda skipped the food part… but come to think of it.
KIMBA
Let’s go!
KATIE
Huh?
KIMBA
My shift ended… I’m starved and… the water is beckoning me… US…
KATIE
Huh?
Kimba starts packing Katie up and points outside.
KIMBA
Let’s go! You’ll like it…
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. SEASIDE
Driving in the direction of Capitola, they make a brief swing to pick up some take out food and then settle in at a picnic table on Opal Cliff Drive — close to the Wharf — but far enough to have some proper non-touristy zen.
KATIE
Good call with the Gayle’s thing. I’m … uh … we… as in me and Gear Guy are such creatures of habit. Bagelry is …
KIMBA
I know… the Go-To and it IS awesome… But a mid-week swing through Gayles has its merits.
KATIE
No doubt. Honestly the best croissant I’ve had since…
She pauses and tries to do a rewind, when Kimba stops her.
KIMBA
Come on now. Like… stay in the NOW and JUST ENJOY! And yes, this may actually be a new addiction… er habit for you guys.
Can we shift gears?
KATIE
Sure!
KIMBA
Okay… what had you so… INSPIRED this day? Your FLO was outstanding!
KATIE
Comes and goes… but this one so vivid I had to get it down.
A wide-eyed Kimba nods and motions Katie to continue.
KATIE
You familiar with the movie SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION?
KIMBA
Was looping on TV… Cable seemed to be running it like every night for a while.
She GOOGLES on her phone.
KATIE
Mid-90s… Saw it… on the big screen during… an escape with a pal from our corporate existence… after work. Instead of a beverage, we caught an early show.
KIMBA
You? Corporate? 90s? (pause) You don’t seem…
KATIE
Good clean living THESE days has reversed the adverse effects of my SUIT existence.
KIMBA
Ah… Gotcha.
KATIE
Usually when I make a Shawshank reference — its related to how the lead Andy played by Tim Robbins — makes his escape … digging his way out tenaciously using a spoon and dumping the gravel in the prison’s exercise yard. His hole was hidden by a Rita Hayworth poster in his cell.
KIMBA
Gotcha… so that’s not what you’re referencing this time.
KATIE
No… Another awesome scene popped to mind and fits a circumstance I saw my eyes.
Kimba is looking at her and motioning to continue.
KATIE
You… are giving me that look… The one… the @TheSEA guys …
KIMBA
Well… Are you going to tell me a story OR do I have to wait for it to magically appear somewhere?
KATIE
Actually… Still fleshing it out, thus the break BY-THE-SEA… Can I … text you a link?
KIMBA
Yeah, sure… Whatever… Got me curious.
KATIE
Well… You’ll like it when I get it done… MUSIC, is a focus and when I get home, I’m putting together a SPOTIFY playlist to go along with the story.
KIMBA
Walk a bit?
KATIE
The MAGIC-20?
KIMBA
Yup, MAGIC-20…
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. CAT & CLOUD
Kimba is dropping Katie off at her car in the parking lot of the CAT & CLOUD. As she is doing so, she waves her phone.
KIMBA
I will track you down… You know I will …
KATIE
No worries my friend. (pause) Can I borrow that a sec?
Kimba hands over her phone and Katie loads up GOOGLE, to get to a particular PAGE for Kimba.
KIMBA
This is…?
KATIE
Found someone did a breakdown of the MOZART scene from SHAWSHANK… Go ahead and give is a look and then when you see what I’ve come up with… it’ll make complete sense… Uh… okay … maybe not complete, but it’ll put you on the path of where this all is FLO-ING from.
…it’ll make complete sense… Uh… okay … maybe not complete, but it’ll put you on the path of where this all is FLO-ING from…
KIMBA
Gotcha.
As she’s giving her phone a second look, it buzzes.
KIMBA
Whoops! I forgot… Must away!
Katie nods and bows, while Kimba scurries off.
FADE OUT.
Are you now as curious (or perhaps even… MORE CURIOUS) than Happy Barista / Uber Driver Kimba?
Yeah, we kinda thought so… And guess what? This Yosh! has a PART 2!
