On Saturday, the Google Doodle was a fitting tribute to Lucille Ball (“I Love Lucy”) on what would have been her 100th birthday. Using a vintage television that had a volume on/off switch and a play button, Google showed famous clips from the television show.
You can read more about it here.
Jedemi “hearts” Lucy. She had an extensive career before that famous 50s television series including a reputation of being the “Queen of Bs,” as in B-movies. In fact, five of her movies were playing on Broadway at the same time in 1946.
She was discovered while modeling for Chesterfield. Same Goldwyn spotted her on a poster appearing in Times Square.
She was taken under the wing of Lela Rogers (Ginger Rogers’ mom) who said, “I noticed the twinkle in her eyes and mobile face which is a must for comedy. I also sensed a depth and great capacity for love.”
Lucy had many notable quotable.
“I believe we’re as happy in life as we make up our minds to be.”
“Keep your head up, keep your shoulders back, keep your self respect, be nice, be smart. And remember that there are practically no overnight successes.”
On overcoming shyness: “It occurred when I finally realized that people didn’t think about me nearly as much as I gave them credit for… When I stopped being a prisoner to what i worried was others’ opinions of me, I became more confident and free.”
That’s a biggie in my book for whatever endeavor you do. Even golf, where people have said they don’t want to look bad. Heck, the other golfers are concentrating on their own game. They probably aren’t looking.
Last thing of note. Lucy spoke favorably of Dr. VIncent Peale (“The Power of Positive Thinking“)
Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy
Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.
