Making the Leap…

INT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
We catch up with him at the WESTSIDE BREW PUB. A crowd has started to gather.
KIMBA THE DRIVER (AKA KIMBERLY THE HAPPY BARISTA) is walking through the crowd looking around. Finally she sees him off to the side of his normal storyteller spot, and races over.
KIMBA
You made it! I was worried about you. You looked exhausted.
RC THE STORYTELLER
All good, my friend. Your timing was perfect. I guess… you got me tucked in over at KATIE’s place. Slept like a baby!
[NOTE: Former Suit, Ms KATIE’s WESTSIDE HOME has served as his crash pad since he leaped out of her SLABBY THING. He splits his time shapeshifting: RC THE GREMLIN and RC THE STORYTELLER.]
KIMBA
She was really worried about ya…
RC THE STORYTELLER
I know. I know. Had to do some mobile R&D… Thought she’d understand.
KIMBA
Got her curious, for sure. Told me that she and GEAR GUY are swinging by…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Whoa! Special appearance, eh? Guess I need to make sure I step up my game, then.
Kimba gives him a look.
RC THE STORYTELLER
What?
KIMBA
Just a courtesy reminder. You be you… You know. Just roll. Let it flow, okay?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Yeah. Gotcha…
KIMBA
So… You ready for this?
RC smiles.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Sure thing. Cue it up!
BOOMBOX BY JEDEMI
…I’m Ready for this, there’s no denying.
I’m ready for this, you stop me falling.
I’m ready for this, I need you all in.
I’m ready for this, so darling hold my hand…
The gatherers make their way to RC and give him their attention. Of course, the heckler in the back lobs one to get things going.
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
You came back?!
RC THE STORYTELLER
Yup. Storytelling is what I do… And yes, I’m back…
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Word had it — You were on hiatus as in … disappearing for a while.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
He’s right… We weren’t sure if you’d be here…
AUDIENCE MEMBER 2
Figured we’d show up anyway. Come for the beverage, stay for the stories… IF stories were meant to be.
RC THE STORYTELLER
And Be they are, my friends. Thanks for coming tonight!
He looks over at Kimba.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So… I heard from a reliable source that the BREAK DANCIN’ KAT has got you curious, yes?
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Well, you steered us in his direction on FAIR. He’s got the moves…
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Like Jagger… moves like Jagger…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Maroon Fiving me? (pause) Nice!
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Thought he’s be your opener tonight.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
With his moves like Jagger… Moves like Jagger…
RC is laughing.
RC THE STORYTELLER
It’s true … that KAT, his name is MR SQUEEK, by the way, IS my opener…
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Oh?… So where is he?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Opener for the next series of stories. Caught wind that some of you have been inventing backstories for MR SQUEEK…
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
He’s got us curious, for sure.
RC THE STORYTELLER
This next series… starting tonight will have MR SQUEEK as one of the lead characters… How’s that suit ya?
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Way cool!
RC THE STORYTELLER
And… there’s more as… That Curious Cat… Wanders around… which means… the stories here “@theSEA” will be…
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Wandering?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Not in a hard to follow way… but REAL LIFE … nothing is linear for real. There’s stories and stories behind the stories.
Shakes his head and take a pull from the pint of his FEEL GUD (house specialty).
AUDIENCE MEMBER 2
We can work with that, right guys?
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Yeah! Tell us some stories
The familiar sing-song begins.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Tell us a story, Mr RC
Tell us a story tonight.
We’re out in the mood for adventures
You got us feelin’ alright…
Off to the side, Kimba The Driver is looking down at her phone.
KIMBA THE DRIVER
Ah… just when it was getting good too. Oh well. Revenue I need so…
She trots off just as former Suit, Ms KATIE and her husband GEAR GUY, arrive.
KATIE
Hey you…
Kimba holds up her phone.
KIMBA THE DRIVER
Jammin’ Gotta pickup. Hey… Gear Guy! Long time, no see.
He smiles and bows slightly.
GEAR GUY
What’d we miss?
KIMBA THE DRIVER
He’s ramping up and … is about to dive into the next series of stories.
KATIE
So… He figured it out, eh?
Kimba nods and quickly exits. Katie smiles while making a “raise the roof” motion with both arms.
She turns to her husband.
KATIE
Fantastical!! Had a feeling he was overthinking and getting himself all worked up…
GEAR GUY
I’ll grab us the usual and meet you over there.
KATIE
Cool beans.
FADE OUT.
