Let us begin, shall we ??
It’s SHOWTIME @TheSEA!
And so it came to be that the following session, a determined RC dove right into the story – No hesitation. No banter with the folks that gathered to find out WHAT. HAPPENED. NEXT.
IT WAS TIME!
And this particular @TheSEA session was going to be very much music driven. With help from his FRIENDS (former Suit, Ms KATIE, Happy Barista / Uber Driver KIMBA, and the BREWPUB WORKER), it happened THAT night… Let’s follow along.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
The group has gathered in anticipation. Lights are dim. No sign of RC THE STORYTELLER yet… Music fades in… INSTRUMENTAL AT FIRST. Folks are bobbing their heads and there’s some murmuring… Where RC normally stands is still DARK.
But then, his voice can be heard through the SPEAKERS.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Lost in a dream. (pause)
Don’t know which way to go. (pause)
If you’re all that you seem. (pause)
Then baby, you’re movin’ WAY. TOO. SLOW…
And before the LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS can jump on that last line, RC continues to SET THE STAGE so to speak.
RC THE STORYTELLER
And so it came to be that… our FOSTER MOM, the NIWASHI, was running out of time to get the HOUDINI HOUND HOMED… Did that bother her?? Well, from the outside… folks interacting with her on a daily basis — they couldn’t tell. All things were quote-unquote NORMAL.
Let’s just say she had that BE LIKE A DUCK thing down… CALM on the outside…above water and PADDLING FURIOUSLY under the surface… Like many of us… Right Ms KATIE?
He points to Katie who waves and nods.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Many of us… process in our SLEEP. Another form of background tasking, but for sure… ISSUES find their way to bubble up. As for SOLUTIONS…? (pause)
We’ll now LISTEN IN to what happened ONE NIGHT at THE NIWASHI RESIDENCE.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. NIWASHI’S PLACE
It is the wee hours of the morning and the restless NIWASHI is wide awake with a song looping through her head. And in her mind’s eyes, she sees her Foster Pup singing Karaoke-style.
SONG IN HEAD
Lost in a dream
I don’t know which way to go
(oh, let me say)
If you are all that you seem
Then baby, YOU’RE movin’ way too slow…
I’ve been a fool before
Wouldn’t like to get my FOOT caught in the slammin’ door
How about some information, please … Straight up now tell me

Or am I caught in a hit-and-run?
So the Niwashi makes her way down to her inside garden for relief. She smiles as she admires her various plants. However, her contentment is short-lived.
EAR-WORMING SONG
…Is it gonna be you and me together? Oh, oh, oh
Or are you just having fun?
In disbelief, she continues to move around muttering to herself, but the lyrics continue to FLOW through her.
EAR-WORMING SONG
…You’re so hard to read
You play hide and seek
with your true intentions…
NIWASHI
Yikes!
She shakes her head.
NIWASHI
Really, Buddy? That’s how you’’re gonna play it? Come on now. This is hard enough…
Moving towards where HOUDINI HOUND sleeps, the song continues.
EAR-WORMING SONG
If you’re only playin’ games I’ll just have to say…
Bye-bye-bye-bye, bye-bye-bye-bye…
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. NIWASHI’S WORK VAN
The Niwashi is driving to a client appointment with her friend on speaker phone. The sound of laughter can be heard.
NIWASHI’S FRIEND
Oh my God… Really? Paula Abdul? Your FOSTER is channeling Paula Abdul? That’s hilarious!
More laughter continues.
NIWASHI
It’s not THAT funny…
NIWASHI’S FRIEND
For me. The visual. Yeah… it kinda is.
NIWASHI
Well… Time’s up on my end. Gotta get him landed somewhere safe… With someone who cares.
NIWASHI’S FRIEND
I feel for you, friend. Wish I could help…
There’s a pause, as the Niwashi parks her van.
NIWASHI
At my client’s now.
NIWASHI’S FRIEND
Talk later?
NIWASHI
Sure.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. CLIENT’S GARDEN
The Niwashi is working away on her client’s new garden when again she hears…
EAR-WORMING SONG
Do, do you love me?
Do, do you love me, baby?
C’mon now, do, do you love me?
Do, do you love me?
Tell me baby?
NIWASHI
Yikes!
She reaches into her PAK and pulls out her EARBUDS.
NIWASHI
Gotta change the channel or I’ll never get anything done.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. NIWASHI’S PLACE
The Niwashi arrives home to see Houdini Hound is “dancing with joy” – tail is wagging away.
NIWASHI INNER
It’s hard to look at him. Makes me sad… really, really sad…
She smiles and waves, then puts her head down to focus on the task of removing items from her van and putting away her various tools. She’s SO focused that she doesn’t notice her Facebook Messenger app “PINGING” away.
In the background, we can see her Foster HAS noticed. He stopped dancing and is pointing to her phone. The Niwashi is still heads down.
Then her phone rings (and rings, and rings).
Houdini Hound is now jumping about. In the corner of her eye she notices him and sees he’s pointing at the phone that she had set aside. She picks it up just as the ringing stops.
NIWASHI
Joy! (pause) Joy called me? That’s weird… She usually just updates me via…
The Niwashi looks at her phone and sees a FB Messenger notification: a message from Joy
NIWASHI
Whoops! Must be urgent if she messengered AND called.
The Niwashi punches up the “dial” on her phone and Joy picks up right away.
NIWASHI
A lead? Really?
There’s silence as Joy continues updating her.
NIWASHI
In our neighborhood? Really? And her name is… Oh… right. Just text me the details. Wow! So fantastic!
Another pause.
NIWASHI
Of course… I’ll update you. Thanks again!!
The Niwashi hangs up and looks at her Foster. And he’s doing a shimmy-dab dance move.
NIWASHI
Whoa buddy… Who taught you that?
HOUDINI HOUND
Pals in the ‘hood, Mama. Pals in the ‘hood. Good news you have?
Good news you have?
NIWASHI
Maybe, yes so you can quit with that Paula Abdul Straight Up routine.
HOUDINI HOUND
My what?!?
The Niwashi smiles and makes a push back motion with her hands.
NIWASHI
Let me finish up here and then I’ve gotta make some calls.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. NIWASHI’S PLACE
The Niwashi has entered her house, leaving her dancing puppy outside. Just then, KEE-RA and his human, MEREDITH walk by.
[breaking the FOURTH WALL, RC briefly pauses the STORY]
RC THE STORYTELLER
Just a reminder. Remember from our DUCKIN’ TALES? Happy Puppy KEE-RA and his human, MEREDITH live in the neighborhood of JOY not too far from THE NIWASHI’S PLACE.
He pauses to take a sip of his SMART WATER and notices nodding of heads. Folks are engaged including the Listener (Heckler) in the Shadows.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Okay, so… KEE-RA and his human, MEREDITH walk by…
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. NIWASHI’S PLACE
Happy Puppy, Kee-Ra notices Houdini Hound’s unusual air of excitement. So while while his human is engaged with her mobile phone, Kee-Ra moves closer to check in with his pal.
HOUDINI HOUND
It worked! It worked!!
KEE-RA
Uh… What worked, my friend?
The shimmy-dab… it seemed to cheer her up…
HOUDINI HOUND
The shimmy-dab… it seemed to cheer her up.
KEE-RA
Oh? Really…? Wow! That’s way cool…
Kee-Ra scans the surroundings, and then continues.
KEE-RA
And where is your cheered up Mama now…?
HOUDINI HOUND
Making a phone call.
Points towards the house.
KEE-RA
Business call? Like my Mama?
HOUDINI HOUND
No… Well… Not exactly. Something’s up though, as the call she got cheered her up …and THEN I did the Shimmy-Dab.
KEE-RA
Ah! That explains it…
HOUDINI HOUND
Uh… Explains WHAT Kee-Ra?
KEE-RA
Why… you got that FEELIN‘ inside your bones…
HOUDINI HOUND
…Goes electric, wavy when I turn it on… All through my city, all through my home. We’re flyin’ up, no ceilin’, when we in our zone…
KEE-RA & HOUDINI HOUND
(together)
We got that sunshine in our pockets
Got that good soul in our feets…
They are about to get on a roll, shimmy-dab-dancin’ when simultaneously, the Niwashi comes back outside and Meredith looks up, nods and gently pulls Kee-Ra back.
MEREDITH
Sorry ‘bout that, DEB.
NIWASHI
No worries, MER. He can linger as long as he likes. They get along so well…
MEREDITH
Yeah, but I gotta jump on Zoom. See ya around.
Kee-Ra PAW BUMPS his pal and they go on their way.
The Niwashi kneels down next to her Foster and gives him a hug.
NIWASHI
Guess what, Buddy? There’s someone special for you to meet.
Tail is wagging furiously-fast.
HOUDINI HOUND
When Mama, when?
NIWASHI
Let’s get ya dolled up.
Houdini Hound starts dancing again.
HOUDINI HOUND
…can’t stop the feelin’
So just dance, dance, dance
I can’t stop the feelin’
So just dance, dance, dance,
come on!
And the Niwashi joins him and tries to mimic the shimmy-dab-dancin’ moves.
FADE OUT.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
On the screen behind RC, he MUSIC video… CAN’T STOP THE FEELING plays.
RC steps aside and someone rushes up to him with a FEELS GUD.
Reward!
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
Whoa!
AUDIENCE MEMBER 2
Second that… Whoa!
AUDIENCE MEMBER 3
Anyone… Got KLEENEX?
There’s laughing and hugging as the group has a moment to absorb what they’ve heard. RC looks towards the LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS, and he holds up his beverage and nods.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
You … That was incredible…
Looking around, he continues…
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
Guys… Let’s…
Starting the clapping, the rest join in and RC bows. After a bit, another pipes up.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 2
Thank you SO much! We’ll be back… Next week can’t come soon enough, eh Guys?
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Yeah! Bravo, RC!! BRAVO !!
Ushering RC to the side where he can relax as this session has drained him, KIMBA directs traffic.
KIMBA
Guys… Back by popular demand… It’s GEAR GUY with his CAMPER CHEESE BAGELS…
