Hard to believe that it has been over 6 months since we last posted about what we’re watching.
It isn’t that we stopped watching. Rather, we just got so busy talking about shows and other #SCMF items that we didn’t get around to posting.
So here we go…
But first, a note about storytelling, time limits and the programming/content available today.
Concentrated viewing time in the evening consists of the window after dinner and before bed. Factoring in how the day went, it becomes an interesting challenge to select something that will ease the mind before shutting down for the day.
Many times, “lighter” fare is in order. Often, the desire to find out “what happens next,” over-rides and you jump into episodic shows that can hurt your brain a bit.
We’ll give you some examples. Presently we are watching two Showtime series that have us a bit on edge: Billions and Homeland.
While both are very good, the maneuvering and manipulation of the various characters hits us kind of wrong — but we want to see how things turn out so we keep watching.
“The Americans” on FX is similar. The show doesn’t feel right, but we follow anyway.
On the positive side, we are looking forward to the new seasons of “Better Call Saul” and “Archer.” The characters are intriguing. There are laughs for sure. And “Saul,” like its predecessor “Breaking Bad” tells its story with great dialogue and interesting camera angles. We like that aspect a lot.
BTW: The season premiere of Better Call Saul is happening tonight.
Here’s the link to the Better Call Saul Season 3 Teaser.
We put FX’s “Legion” in the same category as USA Network’s “Mr. Robot.” There’s a lot going on, including some internal dialogue in the brain of the lead. You really need to be well rested to watch it (or start it before dinner on a weekend day). We have episodes in our DVR waiting for the right time to catch up.
Must See TV…
Sorry to drag on for so long before getting to the best LOL show we’ve seen in a long, long time. Something we stumbled upon accidentally, it really has a horrible name, which is probably why we missed out on viewing it for the last two years: Crazy Ex Girlfriend (2015 —).
Right? Sounds like some kind of psycho killer / fatal attraction drama. It is classified as Comedy, Musical and made its debut on the CW. The description reads as follows:
A young woman abandons a choice job at a law firm and her life in New York in an attempt to find happiness in the unlikely locale of West Covina, California.
The whole “fish out of water” concept is always intriguing to us. But what hooked is was this:
3+ minutes we’ve watched over and over again. What the…?
Each episode is 42-minutes so the length is perfect. The fact that you can see them / binge view them on Netflix or Amazon is a huge plus.
We actually don’t recommend the binge approach. This rich content should be sipped not chugged. Truly enjoyable. We kind of put it in the same category as “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.”
The musical breakouts in Crazy Ex are awesome! Kind of like Family Guy meets Ally McBeal.
What’s On Deck…
The second half of “The Get Down” is now available on Netflix.
We’ll be writing about that soon.
That’s a wrap!
