On October 25, we wrote about Taco Bell’s Free Tacos for Stolen Bases Promo in our AWSI musings.
Quick update: As predicted, the stolen base came in Game 1, during Cleveland’s first inning rally, and Francisco Lindor is the “Taco Hero” you can thank.
Per USA Today:
Francisco Lindor sparked the Indians’ decisive first-inning rally when he lined a single then stole second off Cubs starter Jon Lester in the Indians’ 6-0 win in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday. Lindor’s 3-for-4 performance marked an excellent World Series debut for the young shortstop, but meant so much more than just that to the United States at large: Per Taco Bell’s annual “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion, the first-inning steal secured free tacos for everyone in the United States.
Not to dog-pile on Lester, but he does have “a mental hang-up about an easy toss to first base that often prevents him from pulling the trigger. Aggressive baserunners taunt him with 15-foot leads,” per a Wall Street Journal write-up.
So the suspense is over. Now you just need to set your calendar.
Wisely, Taco Bell is giving away the tacos in a “slow” period of the day (between 2 and 6pm).
Please note the fine print:
Free Doritos LOCOS TACO:
- No purchase necessary.
- Redemption at a designated time
- Subject to terms at participating locations.
- Limit one (1) per person while supplies last.
- Excludes Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme
It’s very possible we’ll have a World Series champion by then too.
