AWSI Musings: Poutine Promo Prompts Posts…

We introduced the “SNapkin” concept in this post. Here’s another to peruse and ponder.  Enjoy!—The Gang

We came upon a story from SportsNet.CA about a food-themed promotion that the Washington Capitals hockey team did on the night they were playing the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Along with holding a maple syrup chugging contest (Yucko!!), they offered Poutine (which is supposed to be a dish consisting of crisp fries, a beefy gravy, and super fresh, squeaky cheese curds).

Here’s a SNapkin of the reaction:

ASWI, the Caps would have benefited from a wording change for their #CapsCanadianNight promo — Like how about “Try Some Capitalized POUTINE!” or better yet:

Try Some Capitalized POUTINE with a Labatt Blue Chaser!

And still better, why not call it “Cover Food” like there are cover songs?

Here’s an example:

The Clash – I Fought the Law

The Original, by Bobby Fuller from 1966

Then again, it is very possible that anything they did would have gotten slammed in social media. We say, lighten up! #WhenInRome.

Check out this Oscar-nominated song. Our take is that Canadians may not have forgiven South Park for this.

With these fine lyrics:

…Blame Canada, blame Canada
With all their hockey hullabaloo…
