Yosh ! 06: Setting the Tone…

Welcome to another Yosh! post!

Happy Barista, Kimberly (Kimba) spots THE JOURNAL that was left for her at the cafe. So now we get to see WHAT. HAPPENS. NEXT. Does she get the FLO going or set it aside?

Note: We introduced “Yosh” in the post.

The Japanese word “Yosh” is used in manga to convey, “Alright, let’s go!” Or as they say in Katie’s household: “Go means go!”

Above is a short clip that says what we’re saying (and demonstrating): For sure, “yosh” is spontaneous and energetic—a verbal burst of enthusiasm or resolve. We believe if you embrace the DragonBustR Way and it becomes a Way of Life (interwoven), you may find yourself bursting with enthusiasm and resolve.

SETTING THE TONE – When Kimba Meets Journal…

As you may recall, RC THE GREMLIN / RC THE STORYTELLER had a special request (30 Sept post).

Previously…

He asked MR SQUEEK THE CAT (AKA SPECIAL AGENT SQUEEK) to drop a JOURNAL off to HAPPY BARISTA KIMBERLY (AKA KIMBA), pointing out how “She’s gotta get a Flo going”.

FADE IN:

INT. CAT & CLOUD
It is nearing the end of Kimberly’s shift. She’s tidying up and wiping down the counters when she notices near where she stores her recently acquired STRING-PAK, a brown paper package.

KIMBERLY
What’s this?

Studying it closely, she notices it is lightly sealed. After looking around, she sets it down and continues her chores. But before long, she returns.

KIMBERLY
I gotta know… seems strange…

She gently opens and extracts the 5×7-inch JOURNAL which has a black scrunchie around it.

KIMBERLY
Huh?

Then she looks at a note inserted in the front pocket and reads.

The note…

KIMBERLY
DragonBustRs 3Rs??

Hearing the front door open, she stashes her FIND underneath the counter and then looks around for whoever came in.
Not who she expected.

MR SQUEEK
Hey, there Toots! What’s going on?

KIMBERLY
Oh… Hey Buddy… I was just…

Mr Squeek gives her a look… a knowing one.

MR SQUEEK
Just what, my friend?

There’s more hesitation, before she reaches under the counter and then slides the Journal over to Mr Squeek.

MR SQUEEK
Yes, and…

KIMBERLY
You know about this?

MR SQUEEK
Yes, and…

KIMBERLY
What am I supposed to…?

MR SQUEEK
The note in the inside pocket. Read did you?

Inside pocket note…

KIMBERLY
Ha! Now my turn for … yes, and…

MR SQUEEK
My friend, I was told that you’d benefit from adding this to your daily routine.

KIMBERLY
Told??

MR SQUEEK
Yes indeed. You’ve got admirers apparently — besides me of course. Now please, give it a second look.

So Kimberly opens up the Journal and starts twirling the pencil in her hand while re-reading the note. While she is doing so, Mr Squeek puts a Ponderables POST-IT on the counter.

Post-It Post-Script…

KIMBERLY
What’s that?

MR SQUEEK
I guess you can call it an addendum or maybe… POST-It POST-Script!

He laughs at his own joke. She gives him a look.

MR SQUEEK
As in P.S. Like… lighten up Sunshine.

She gives him a weak smile as she studies the Journal some more.

MR SQUEEK
So what’s troubling you? … WHY is that troubling you?

KIMBERLY
The WHEN… Like “When do I do this ROUTINE”? I’m pretty much jamming from the time I get up and … the side hustle… well … is kinda disruptive by its very nature… so really, not enough time to get into a …

MR SQUEEK
Hint, you’d like?

KIMBERLY
Yes, please.

MR SQUEEK
I know from a reliable source that… it is simple. Wake up 20 minutes sooner.

KIMBERLY
What? I …

MR SQUEEK
Hang on… Go to bed 20-minutes sooner. Wake up 20-minutes sooner and then you’ve bought yourself time to do what it says there… The ROUTINE.

There’s a long pause and Mr Squeek patiently waits as he can see Kimberly thinking it through.

MR SQUEEK
My reliable source ALSO SAYS… that’s a proven best practice. So, why don’t you give it a try?

KIMBERLY
Writing, huh?

MR SQUEEK
Yes, and… Finish reading that POST-IT… You’ve got a Bonus-R!

The bonus “R”…

MR SQUEEK
You get to wRite and dRaw! It was a revelation, that fits your scenario and will be incorporated in future JOURNALs apparently.

KIMBERLY
So says, your reliable source, right?

MR SQUEEK
Right! Now my friend… I must away…

He’s about to trot off when he turns around and rushes back to the counter.

KIMBERLY
What? There’s more?

MR SQUEEK
For you, yes! I almost forgot.

He pull out a bulging envelope.

MR SQUEEK
Could you…? The usual, yes?

KIMBERLY
Gotcha, Buddy!

MR SQUEEK
Circling back… Don’t overthink. Give it a try… the new Routine… please?

KIMBERLY
Yeah… Sure… Will do. Thanks!

MR SQUEEK
Now truly… Must away!

He bolts while Kimberly stashes the Journal into her PAK, talking to herself.

KIMBERLY
Sure… why not?
