DISH-PATCH (049): Stuff It! The Envelopes Please…

And so it was that scone-carrying Happy Barista / Uber Driver KIMBA arrived at her Auntie’s house just in time for a what ?!? Let’s just say, scones were the furthest from Auntie’s mind as something more important was pressing.

Let’s follow along to find out WHAT. HAPPENS. NEXT… —The Gang

FADE IN:

INT. AUNTIE’S HOUSE

After a courtesy knock, KIMBA enters to find her Auntie at her kitchen table staring at a pile of paper, a stack of envelopes.

Kimba holds up the container of scones** and before launching into “the only ones available” speech she had rehearsed in her head,
Auntie speaks up.

AUNTIE
Oh good! You’re here! Put that down… Usual spot. Thanks! Now…

She motions for Kimba to come closer.

…hands aren’t working well today. Can you…?

AUNTIE
Gosh darn it. Thought I’d be able to … but hands aren’t working well today. Can you…?

KIMBA
Looks like you got yourself a project, Auntie. This is…?

AUNTIE
A mailing. Civic Arts… The person who usually does it is away… family… something came up. So a bunch of us volunteered. Gotta send out today, and…

KIMBA
I got ya. Show me and then take a load off…

After walking Kimba through how to fold what went into the envelope, Auntie heads down the hallway. Kimba goes to work following some BEAT in her head that makes the activity flow.

Click to enjoy…

[Strangely, the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack was playing in her car on the way over and now she has AXEL F (Harold Faltermeyer) looping…]

Before long, or so it seemed, a full stack of stuffed envelopes was ready for the next steps.

KIMBA
I would have been cool if these were self adhesive with that pull-tab…

Lost in thought, a clunk is heard. Kimba looks over and retrieves a GLUE STICK that’s about to roll off the table where she’s working.

KIMBA
What the…?

AUNTIE
You didn’t think we’d be licking all those, did you?

She laughs.

KIMBA
Well… knowing you I figured you’d have a plan… like using one of those spongey things.

Spongey thing…

AUNTIE
This is better and… Here ya go!

Auntie sets out a stack of scrap paper.

KIMBA
Uh… This is…??

AUNTIE
The tradeoff of using the GLUESTICK is the overflow. Best to have…

KIMBA
Ah! Smart Auntie! Keeps the glue from sticking to the table. I get it.

AUNTIE
I’ll let you have at it.

And so once again to the sounds of the Beverly Hills Cop “AXEL F” in her head she flew through sealing the stack of envelopes.

KIMBA
Lickety-split!!

Kimba says out loud upon finishing the last one in the stack just as Auntie returns with…

AUNTIE
You’re fast! We might make the cutoff at the Post Office. The sooner the better… Get ‘em outta here.

She reaches into a drawer and extracts a pair of old school scissors.

Old School Scissors…

KIMBA
What the…?

AUNTIE
Shush you.

She laughs and then her attention turns to something else in the drawer. Pulling it out, she laughs.

KIMBA
Is that…?

AUNTIE
Forgot I had this… A stamp dispenser looking like mailbox.

Stamp Dispenser…

AUNTIE
Fun, right?

She stows the scissors and hands the dispenser along with a shoebox to Kimba.

AUNTIE
Got ya this… Somewhere to put the stack of completes so they don’t slide around in your car.

KIMBA
Today, Auntie? Today?

AUNTIE
Yeah. You can make it. Cutting you loose after this… Appreciate the last minute help.

So again, “lickety split”, Kimba completes the task. After doing a last check to make sure she didn’t miss any, she closes the lid on the box, puts her SATCHEL-PAK on, and makes for the door.

Pausing, she tiptoes back in to find Auntie asleep in from of the TV with the sound blaring.

KIMBA
And that’s how she can stay up all night for her shows…

Smiling, she quietly exits and heads towards the post office to complete the mission (AKA Auntie’s challenge).

FADE OUT.

That’s a Wrap… !

Celebrating Kimba’s day…

This really was a good example of FLEX-N-FLO (AWARE. ACCEPT. ADAPT.)

Thing is… this shift ends up being serendipitous (spoiler alert!)

Please stay tuned to find out WHAT. HAPPENS. NEXT…
