ACCIDENTAL ON PURPOSE – ADVENTURES WITH RC & KIMBA…
RECAP – A GATHERING BEYOND ‘THE SEA’…
After wrapping up his Storytelling Session at The SEA, RC the STORYTELLER, invited folks to follow him up the street for a treat.
Music emanating from the destination, got their attention, and they pick up the pace.
BOOMBOX BY JEDEMI
Dancin’ is what to do,
Dancin’s when I think of you,
Dancin’s what where’s my soul,
Dancin’s what makes me whole…
It’s the EDM hit (JJ Flores & Steve Smooth Remix) Dancin’ Aaron Smith featuring Luvli.
As they moved closer to the sound, they can ascertain images projected on the side of the building. It’s JD THE DUCKIN DUCK as previously seen in the mockups on Katie’s Jeep (Duckin 2.0).
And there are speech bubbles appearing where JD is repeating the lyrics with a slight twist.
JD THE DUCK
Duckin’ is what to do,

The group is cracking up. Laughing and snapping pictures with their phones and then a voice pipes up.
A WALKABOUTER
There he is!!
WALKABOUTERS IN UNISON
Huh?
A WALKABOUTER
It’s the break dancing cat! Check it out.
They move closer to admire a LIVE performance by MR SQUEEK THE DOORKAT. And while they are watching, RC heads inside on a mission. Just as he reaches the door, it seemingly opens by itself.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Huh? I didn’t…
It’s KIMBA THE HAPPY BARISTA from CAT & CLOUD. She’s just returned from her last UBER customer for the evening.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Ah… It’s you.
KIMBA
Just following the crowd… the music and yes, my pal Mr Squeek. It isn’t often I get a chance to witness his performances.
RC points to the reach-in freezer.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Treating the gang. You in?
KIMBA
Sure. Hold on.
Kimba races outside and does a headcount. Noticing an orange Homer bucket, she grabs it and returns to RC’s side.
KIMBA
Let’s use this. Mr Squeek’s got another tip bucket working so this is… perfect for those yummy delicacies.
RC THE STORYTELLER
I ordered ahead… Guessed at quantity needed.
As Kimba finishes filling the Homer bucket…
KIMBA
Spot on!
RC waves to the server behind the counter, who bows. Off they go.
RC THE STORYTELLER
The performances… his and my TIP-OUTS, keep us covered snack-wise.
Kimba set the bucket down as the song ends and Mr Squeek takes a break. The attendees drop off tips in one bucket and pick up an ice cream sandwich from another.
RC THE STORYTELLER

As they munch away, RC and Kimba fist bump.
RC THE STORYTELLER
I believe our work here for the evening is done.

So they pile into her OFF-DUTY, UBER-MOBILE.
KIMBA
Where to Mister?
She says with a smile.
KIMBA
I never get to say that… always wanted to. Since the app does everything, it’s mostly idle chit chat about the why or the what ya up to?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Totally get it. A spin into town please… 829 Front St for some reading materials.
KIMBA
Copy that. Okay if I play some music for our short ride into town?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Go for it… Whatcha got in mind?
KIMBA
SPOTIFY … It’s fun to hear what they’ve come up with… WEEKLY playlist. Not sure what algorithm they’re using. Just surprisingly fun. Don’t have as much time as I’d like to check it out.
RC THE STORYTELLER

From Discovery, to Actual Playlist…
Before long, Kimba pulls over right in front of BOOKSHOP SANTA CRUZ. The vehicle stopping gets RC’s attention.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Uh… Whatcha doing Miss Kimba?
KIMBA
Downtown. Reading material… Right?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Right. Not right. Front Street NOT Pacific. Nice try though.
Kimba gives him a look to see if he’s messing with her or not.
KIMBA
Not Bookshop Santa Cruz?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Close but no cigar. Take a spin around the corner. Then let’s park in the Wells Fargo lot since we know THEY’RE closed.
KIMBA
Copy that … and Sorry. I guess I should stick to using an App for navigation.
RC THE STORYTELLER
No worries.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. SANTA CRUZ DOWNTOWN
As they walk briskly up the street, RC points to a sign.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Ms Kimba… THAT is the place. Lots of Reading material there.
Kimba looks closely at what’s in the window facing the street.
KIMBA
Comicopolis? Like… Super-man-y, Marvel-y and DC comics-y store?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Yes, and…
KIMBA
So your buddy is … like… comic book guy, from The Simpsons?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Oh hell no! He’s a passionate manga guy who spends a lot of time tracking down rare beauties to feature in a special section of the store.
KIMBA
Whoa! Had no idea…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Do me a favor and tap with your keys… You know …
KIMBA
Like in Roger Rabbit?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Sure, why not?
After a couple cycles of “Shave & a Haircut” taps, the door unlocks and a head pops out.
MATTY THE COMIC STORE GUY
What’s the password?
KIMBA
Walt send me.
RC is behind her cracking up.
MATTY THE COMIC STORE GUY
You kids! Come on in! Wait ‘til you see it RC. It’s pristine!
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. COMICOPOLIS STORE
Kimba and RC follow Matty towards a corner near the back of the store. RC nudges Kimba.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Pay attention… This is what I mentioned. Probably… good place for you to spend some of your hang time between rides, ya know?
KIMBA
Copy that.
Her eyeballs grow big as she sees, for her, an amazing world of treasures away from the standard Comic Book Store offerings.
KIMBA
Wow and wow!!
She roams the section while RC and Matty catch up. Then she feels a tap on the shoulder.
MATTY THE COMIC STORE GUY
Here. Enjoy!
It is a bag with a cartoon drawn on the outside. Folded over several times, Kimba starts to open and RC stops her.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Let’s get going. You can check it out later. Mr Matty is past his bedtime… er… gonna turn into a pumpkin or pillar of salt or something if he doesn’t get a move on.
Kimba bows.
KIMBA
Pleasure meeting you. Thanks for the gift and waiting for us.
MATTY THE COMIC STORE GUY
Please… come by again. More treats in store… literally.
He laughs. And they hustle out so he can get on with his evening.
