EXTRA !! Pt2 - DuckinTales Ep 6

As we Flex-n-Flo around here, the ideas keep on coming, so we’ll keep on posting. The visual in our mind is that newspaper boy shouting out: “EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!

In this case, it’s a bonus… a glimpse into what Katie intended to share with her pals KEE-RA and his human MEREDITH which builds off the MP3 player introduction RC gave the audience during the season-ending episode of Duckin’ Tales. So, please Enjoy! Enjoy! —The Gang

At the end of Episode 6, it was mentioned how Katie put the Roll em playlist on the SanDisk MP3 player with the intent of showing KEE-RA and MEREDITH how to hook it up to the sound system in the Jeep (via the cassette adapter).

KATIE
Oh well.. maybe next time.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. MEREDITH’S HOUSE

The door opens and Happy Puppy KEE-RA emerges with his human, MEREDITH in tow. He stops abruptly.

KEE-RA
Look, Mama, Look!

She sees the brown box left on her porch by the UPS man.

MEREDITH
Interesting… I didn’t…

KEE-RA
Who’s it from, Mama?

Meredith studies the label and smiles.

MEREDITH
Looks like your Trail Pal. Shall we open now or when we get back?

KEE-RA
Uh… Quick stretch I need.

MEREDITH

Alrighty then, let’s go!

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. MEREDITH’S HOUSE

A short while later, they have returned. The brown box has now moved to the table near the front door and Meredith has her box cutter ready. Kee-Ra is dancing about with his tail wagging happily

KEE-RA
What’d we win, Mama? What’d we win?

MEREDITH
Right now it looks like a lot of brown paper…

KEE-RA
Ah, well-packed it is. That’s my buddy!

After removing the first layer of brown paper padding, emerges a black SAN DISK MP3 player with ear buds, along with a JEDEMI FLEX-N-FLO COASTER.

MEREDITH
Huh… looks like… Yeah, an old school MP3 player.

KEE-RA
Music? For music?

MEREDITH
Most likely. Now let’s see what else is here… perhaps a READ ME first note.

Meredith proceeds to pull more brown paper out of the box, after gently setting aside the MP3 player.

KEE-RA
I smell… Whoa! Did she…?

MEREDITH
Westside this side! Yup! We’ve been CAT & CLOUDed.

She holds up the bag for Kee-Ra to see.

KEE-RA
Nice, Mama, nice!

MEREDITH
And here’s the note…

Meredith scans and then holds for Kee-Ra to see.

KEE-RA
For the Jeep? Our adventures?

MEREDITH
Yup! Says she forgot to give this to us… Says it’s for “setting the tone”.

KEE-RA
Interesting. Whatcha waiting for? Put those buds in and press play!

She smiles and fumbles a little until she figures out how to turn it on. Finally, the music starts to play. MARY LOU WILLIAMS “ROLL ‘EM.”

Closing her eyes, she let’s the music wash over her. While Kee-Ra waits patiently. Feeling his anticipation, she presses pause and pulls out one bud.

MEREDITH
Sorry, Buddy. I’ll leave a bud out for you as I know you’ll pick up the sound with those fantastical Astro Boy ears of yours.

KEE-RA
Thanks, Mama, Thanks!

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. MEREDITH’S GARAGE
Meredith is in the JEEP she’s fostering for her pal, the former Suit, Ms KATIE (AKA KEE-RA’S TRAIL PAL).

She places Katie’s READ ME note on the passenger seat where Kee-Ra is sitting.

MEREDITH
Well, Buddy… According to the note…

She digs into the center console of the Jeep.

MEREDITH
Wow… Deep INDEED!!

Before long, she pulls it out.

KEE-RA
That’s it?

MEREDITH
Says CASSETTE ADAPTER, so … I guess… yeah.

Meredith pulls the MP3 player out of her pocket and removes the ear buds.

KEE-RA
So… you plug that wire from the adapter into the ear bud socket?

MEREDITH
Yup… line out…

She slides the other end into the Jeep’s cassette player.

KEE-RA
Old school! Fire ‘er up, Mama!

Meredith starts the Jeep and then turns on the stereo with the adapter fully inserted. Cranks up the volume…

MEREDITH
It’s not … hang on… Oh… Duh…

Pressing PLAY, they are temporarily blasted with music which she quickly adjusts.

They both look at each other. She’s grinning away and he’s wagging away.

KEE-RA
Well… Let’s do what it says…

And as various editions of ROLL’EM flow through the stereo system of the Jeep, Kee-Ra and his driver-human Meredith cruise their neighborhood.
Top down. Tunes a manageable volume, they enjoy the sights and sounds.

Rolling to a Stop, Meredith is all smiles.

MEREDITH
Ya know… She’s onto something, buddy!

Kee-Ra paw bumps her and then looks over to the sidewalk and sees his neighborhood puppy pal, FINN-FINN with his human. Kee-Ra waves and Finn-Finn waves back.

KEE-RA
(to himself) Gotta circle back with Ms Katie on that one.

Then Finn-Finn follows the Jeep to the next Stop sign pulling his human. He gets Kee-Ra’s attention and points up.
Kee-Ra excitedly looks up and so does Meredith.

Through the gateway of palm trees in the plaza, they see a shadow moving in the sky– casting a shadow in the plaza.

They both look at each other.
