The treasure trove on YouTube continues to amaze me. For your viewing pleasure, here is a short film (Duration: 0:27 at 28 fps.) of a baseball game shot in 1898 (not a typo!) by Thomas Edison (yes, THAT Edison).
According to this website there was a camera positioned behind home plate. The clip shows a game in progress with action showing two players running towards the camera.
I’ll admit I watched it the first time without this setup (description) and thought the guys were running at first base.
Anyway, it’s pretty cool to think something from well over a 100 years ago (do the math) has been preserved.
