Golf News: National Walk the Course Day Announced…

Bag Boy, makers of push carts used for golfing, put out an announcement stating Saturday, June 8 is “National Walk The Course Day.”

Great news and very appropriate for a company such as theirs.

My question is… how are they doing getting courses to sign up for the program?

According to the PDF link on their website, there are only a half dozen of courses on board for this “national” event.

A press release alone will not get the momentum going. They need to do a lot of proactive outreach AND get fans on board to help them spread the news.

I don’t believe the incentive, “each participating golf course will donate $1 to the local First Tee Chapter for every golfer that walks and uses a push cart” will be enough. Saturdays are prime time, big fee days where cart revenues are a huge plus.

For golfers, at least there’s this: Golfers who participate in the “Walk The Course Day” on June 8 will be entered to win a new TriSwivel push cart ($249.00 at TGW) and accessory pack. The TriSwivel is the latest technology in push carts featuring a 360 degree front wheel giving golfers effortless maneuverability.

Nice idea, but it needs much more “umph” to be truly successful.

The full release appears below. Also, here’s a video showing their nifty cart in action.

And here’s a link to a review.

Personally, I think some sort of Facebook campaign where “Likes” lead towards chances to win the Triswivel or obtain it at a steep discount would go far for the company. Something to ponder.

Bag Boy Launches National Walk The Course Day Slated For Saturday, June 8

RICHMOND, Va., May 21, 2013 – The Bag Boy Company, the technology leader in push cart development and design, is launching a national “Walk The Course Day” slated for Saturday, June 8. Bag Boy is encouraging golfers who play golf on June 8 to walk the course and enjoy the health benefits’ walking provides. Bag Boy and each participating golf course will donate $1 to the local First Tee Chapter for every golfer that walks and uses a push cart.

“As the leader in push carts, we feel this campaign is a great way for us to let golfers experience first-hand the benefits of walking the course and help out their local First Tee program,” said Craig Ramsbottom, President, Dynamic Brands. “Our research has shown golfers not only enjoy the game and the overall experience more when they walk, but in fact play better.”

The benefit of walking has been proven through a research study conducted by the Rose Centre in Denver, Colo. The study showed golfers’ burn almost twice as many calories when they walk as oppose to riding in a cart and play more consistent, resulting in shooting lower scores than those riding in a cart. It was also found that walking provides a better overall experience, allowing golfers to interact with their playing partners more and enjoy the natural beauty of the course from tee to green.
