INT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB – RC’S CORNER
The BOOMBOX BY JEDEMI music has done its job and a crowd has started to gather near RC’s corner.
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
What’s up with that silly smile, story man?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Who me?
He tries to look stern.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
Don’t do it, man. Your face could get stuck that way…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Probably a bit of truth to that… Now gather around because… Today’s gonna be … good… Real good!
He’s dancing to the music as the attendees move closer. RC is encouraging a shout-back… “The Hook” where they are alternating who is saying: “I’m ready to go right now.”

So RC motions to lower the volume. And with that silly smile (foolish grin?), he announces…

RC nods, still grinning away, and seems to be motioning for more guesses.
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Let’s go Mr Grinster… Want me to start that TIMER … so you can get your inner TED-TALKER engaged?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Good point. Go ahead… As for the grin… I get to talk about… ME!
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Huh?

In the context of the interwoven stories I’ll be telling each week, of course. Longtime companion of Ms KATIE, I had been… let’s say… on assignment UNTIL…
The pause gets the audience murmuring.

Workin’ the Magic…
RC is describing the setting:

Let’s start with the following week… Ms KATIE, the former Suit, had always designated Wednesdays as her JEDEMI day of the week. She arrives and settles into her routine…
Mocha chai in one hand. Pencil in the other AND this particular day, Mozart in her ears.
She’s energetically writing away.. Looking up at the door. Why?
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
DOORKAT?
RC THE STORYTELLER
That’s correct. Without reading her JOURNAL, you can sense from… That little bubble hanging over her head, that’s she’s rewinding the conversation with said DOORKAT — and wondering… a lot… And writing a lot until… she decides that its time to … take a shot at using the… SLABBY THING.
He makes air quotes as he says: “SLABBY THING”.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So opening it up, stylus in her left hand, she looks as if she’s stuck again. Then a voice pipes up.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. JEDEMI CAFE – KATIE’S TABLE
MR SQUEEK
Alright already! Go means GO! How about starting with what you know? Draw something… anything that you’ve done like a million times…
RC THE STORYTELLER
(voice over)
Katie looks to where the voice came from, but doesn’t see Mr Squeek. The message DOES seem to register. Without hesitation, the left hand guides her stylus and…
KATIE
Here goes… Old school. My OG! Hello, Mr Gremlin!
RC pauses and then shows a picture from the SLABBY THING projected on the screen beside him.
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Looks like…you.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Yeah!
YOU? YOU’RE her OG?
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
YOU? YOU’RE her OG?
And there’s RC grinning away (again!).
RC THE STORYTELLER
Yup. That would be the OTHER me… as SHAPESHIFTING has become my specialty. Now let’s listen in… following the BUBBLE over her head.

KATIE’S BUBBLE
Begin at the beginning… Yup! And in this case, it was a roll back care of a voice sounding a lot like that DOORKAT, MR SQUEEK.
This little fellow has gone a long way with me… Been at all the career stops (school too!)… Anyway, this… IS actually fun!
RC THE STORYTELLER
Fun and FUNDAMENTAL!! Told ya… ME and Ms KATIE go way back. Anyway, as Katie is trying to contain her enthusiasm… THE VOICE is heard in her ears.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
DOORKAT?
A pause and then…
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
MR SQUEEK?
RC nods and the characters take over the storytelling.
MR SQUEEK
See? Relax. Go with what you know. Get comfortable with your creation. Have fun AND by all means DON’T THINK! Flex-n-Flo, am I right?
Looking in the direction of the voice, this time she sees Mr Squeek.
KATIE
Ah… it’s you… Where you been?
MR SQUEEK
Here… Watching… Noticing you aren’t one to sit still. Up and down. Up and down. A human yo-yo…
KATIE
You should have seen me in my cubicle days.
MR SQUEEK
The thought makes my brain hurt. You were like… a Type-A so full of energy that you made your co-workers crazy, am I right?
Katie laughs.
KATIE
Something like that… Jumping on chairs to prairie dog a bit… fun times!
MR SQUEEK
Indeed… but let’s not slip too far down memory lane except… Tell me about this cute guy on your slabby thing.
KATIE
My OG! RC the Gremlin…
MR SQUEEK
He’s really good for you… Cute and fun to draw… You seem so relaxed playing with your slabby thing making iterations of … RC you said?
RC on Slabby…
KATIE
Yes. Me and My RC…
She laughs uncontrollably.
MR SQUEEK
What the…?
KATIE
Google it. An ad from wayback. Ear-worm Warning! It’ll ruin you…
DISSOLVE TO:

RC the STORYTELLER is holding the REMOTE in his hand and is pointing it at the screen.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Ready for your Ear Worm?
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Hard no! Right guys?

From the screen, RC THE GREMLIN speaks…
RC THE GREMLIN
I’ll give you a hint… The ear-worm is from an old ad campaign for RC Cola… Thus the ME & MY RC… But where you’ll find me in action… is in JEDEMI CHRONICLES: TAMING OF THE SUIT… as RC stands for… REMOTE CONTROL…
RC THE STORYTELLER takes over, remote in hand as he hits the PAUSE on RC THE GREMLIN.

So MR SQUEEK imparts some additional thoughts and words of encouragement on Ms KATIE…
MR SQUEEK
Alrighty then. You and your RC should be the focus for now. Just PLAY. Then, next we meet, we can step it up.
Just play!
KATIE
And I’ll get to learn more about Joy?
MR SQUEEK
Yes, focus on this for now and Joy comes later.
There’s a pause and then RC jumps back in…
RC THE STORYTELLER
Play on words, of course but as a reminder… Mr Squeek’s prOject IS to get stories from THE WORLD OF JOY… out into the World… So in a way, he’s taming her… But that’s a story for another time…
RC looks at the TIMER and he points.
RC THE STORYTELLER
And THAT’s a WRAP for today… which just so happens to mirror the story — where at this particular point, the timer in Katie’s satchel-pak rings.
DBRs Timer…
She quickly packs up and says her good byes.
MR SQUEEK

I second that emotion… See ya next week!!
He bows and steps aside to the STANDER TABLE, where one of the audience members has placed a cold pint of FEELS GUD for him. He takes a long pull and smiles.
