WowMe: Brilliant & God Only Knows…

God only knows… “He has lost his memory not his humanity…” This WowMe delves into the new NBC/Peacock series “Brilliant Mind” which resonated with Mr Pete. Read on! -editor

About Ten Years ago I suffered a Stroke.

I foolishly mistook the symptoms as fatigue and didn’t get my ass to a hospital before becoming a victim of some neurological damage. And now, thoughts are often scattered and I seemed to have developed an over-sensitivity to emotional scenes. These conditions also gave me a hungry curiosity to the beauty and mystery of the human mind.

How I Cope…

On nights when I cannot drift to sleep, I usually end up opening my laptop or using my phone to scroll through Facebook—mostly escaping into the short “Reels” members have posted there.

The first five minutes of the first episode of the NBC medical drama Brilliant Minds feature Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) helping an Alzheimer’s patient reconnect with music…

Someone posted the first five minutes of a new NBC/Peacock series “Brilliant Minds”, and one of the key elements of the scene is a performance of what I considered one of the most perfect songs ever written “God Only Knows.”

The Trailer…

A Song that Resonates: God Only Knows…

Often attributed to the BEACH BOYS it was really put together by BRIAN WILSON and a group of Studio Musicians referred to collectively as THE WRECKING CREW (see clips below).

I confess that I tear up whenever I hear this song…

Notable:Roughly ten years ago, the BBC MUSIC put together a fantastic collaborative video featuring a wide range of artists singing “God Only Knows.”

This whole thing, besides being a promotional stunt, was to show how artists from around the world and all different genres can connect to a single song. ‘God Only Knows’ is known widely as one of the greatest pieces in musical history, which is why artists from One Direction to Stevie Wonder to Lorde to Paloma Faith to Dave Grohl have such a respect for the song…

Just scroll down on the YouTube video to see this comment — which captures my thoughts/feelings.

Now Back to the Show…

I enjoy medical procedural TV shows where the main character (doctor) suffers from some condition that is a blessing and a curse… Though that person is cursed with a medical condition, they are also blessed because that condition changes their way of thinking and how they interact with other people.

Note: I own the “House M.D.” Box Set.

When my mother was in a nursing home I downloaded the first season of “The Good Doctor” for her onto her Kindle Fire. Ironically, as her dementia progressed, she would often forget an episode after she watched it. That meant we never had to download Season 2, as we just started over again with Season 1, Episode 1.

This is the scene that led me to track down the whole Pilot of the show.

And this link goes to the “Reel” that brought tears to my eyes.

If you Google ‘Brilliant Minds’ which had its debut at the end of September, you might find descriptions that mention how the show brings neurologist Oliver Sacks to life.

Dr Oliver Sacks has written several books. Robin Williams played him in the movie, “Awakenings

That’s a Wrap!

I highly recommend that you venture to track down the first episode and give it a watch. I came across it on PEACOCK, the NBC streaming service (Note: You can download the APP for Free).

FYI. To watch is “free” with the true price being the inclusion of a block of ads during the show that you can’t skip over.

Thanks for pondering with me (us!) — Mr Pete and Annie (AKA the editor)
