And so it was… DOORKAT SQUEEK, determined to get WORLD OF JOY STORY, out to the “WORLD,” began leveraging available resources — which are plentiful at JEDEMI apparently — some may say a magnet for … ingenuity and innovation it is. Others have latched onto how much the “DING!Thing” happens in and around the place.
Let’s listen in to find out WHAT. HAPPENED. NEXT.

INT. JEDEMI CAFE
DOSSIE
Greetings, Mr Squeek! How are you this lovely day.
MR SQUEEK
Hi there ladies! Fine as always. Just hanging out here doing my waving thing… you know…
FRANNIE
Actually, what we KNOW is that you are doing some playful interacting with our Katie…
MR SQUEEK
YOUR Katie?
DOSSIE
Formerly known as “The Suit” who has come back here to Jedemi after years…
FRANNIE
Actually, decades away. Did you…
MR SQUEEK
Know? Who me?? Just intrigued by the SLABBY THING she had with her and the fact that she seemed stuck and needed a nudge. Not unusual really… Lots of folks hanging out here seem to respond well to nudging.
DOSSIE
Agreed. That’s what the napkins do…
FRANNIE
Along with the Enchanted Jukebox. The guys have fun programming songs with appropriate lyrics.
MR SQUEEK
Gotcha…
DOSSIE
You’ve got US curious though…
FRANNIE
Did you just give her a homework assignment?
DOSSIE
That’s what it looked like.
FRANNIE
For sure, something changed and we wanted to hear directly from you…
MR SQUEEK
Ladies… You are quite perceptive and yes, your Katie is off on assignment until we meet again.
Mr Squeek looks around and motions to a corner of the cafe.
MR SQUEEK
Let’s chat over there. I can keep an eye on the front door and give you the low down.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. JEDEMI CAFE – COZY CORNER
They move to the corner and Mr Squeek tells his story.
MR SQUEEK
She had me curious. And, from what I could tell… she can draw. Saw fun stuff in her Journal.
There’s a gap between what Mr Squeek says and what’s going on in his head (his inner dialogue). The ladies are patient as he thinks out his thoughts.
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
Shoot. Think fast. How do I explain… I don’t have a story and I’m just stalling. A good story from that hood… seemed like a good excuse to…
He snaps back into his interaction with the ladies.
MR SQUEEK
Sorry about that. Got distracted. Okay… I got a sense… Yeah, that’s it… A sense that there’s a story in the World of Joy that needs to be told. A really good story… Just… struggling with how to do it.
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
Now to leverage the fact that I squeek, right?
MR SQUEEK
I mean… look at me (pause). I’m the DoorKat… a cute, squeaky-voice DoorKat… that is, if I pipe up. How am I supposed to tell a story with just squeaks and that fine Gromit-style of communicating with my eyes and facial expressions?
FRANNIE
Grommet? Huh??
DOSSIE
Ah! Wallace & Gromit! Love it! (to Frannie) We’ll get the guys to show one evening on the big screen, Frannie.
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
Think I hooked ‘em. Cool. Maybe we’ll just case the ‘hood and then I can get more of the story from Double G to … Uh…
FRANNIE
Nice… Back to you, Mr Squeek… How did you get her to understand you?
DOSSIE
Not squeaky at all… We understand you.
MR SQUEEK
Ah… Yeah… So… I’ve been working on gaining my voice… but if I’m too excited, I slip back into squeek-speak. And that just won’t do.
DOSSIE
It happens…
MR SQUEEK
Anyway, I saw her playing around with that slabby thing and … watched the people around here… what they were reading… and had an “AHA!” moment.
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
Double-G’s been talking DING!! So maybe…
MR SQUEEK
Actually… More like “DING!!”…a DING!THING... And a connection was made…
Get Ms Katie to draw that Joy story and then perhaps she’ll get unstuck with whatever she’s trying to create…

MR SQUEEK
Manga style! Why not? Taming her right now…
DOSSIE
Brilliant! Like the thinking.
FRANNIE
And… Manga because she told you she’s studying or…
MR SQUEEK
Because it makes sense for the story I want to tell. Plus, the beauty of Manga… you got the visuals, the speech bubbles and then the “what you’re thinking” bubbles… unveiling the inner dialogue…
DOSSIE
You KNOW the inner dialogue?
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
Might as well… give it up a little to get them hooked, right? It takes a Jedemi village to…
MR SQUEEK
Let’s just say, it’s a talent I’ve cultivated.
DOSSIE
Wow!
FRANNIE
I second that… Wow!
They all get quiet as though visualizing what’s being said. Mr Squeek eyes them and then seems to have another “AHA!” moment.
DING! Happens…
DOSSIE
It’s happening again for you… that “AHA!” er “DING!!Thing”?
Mr Squeek nods.
MR SQUEEK
Indeed… So… You guys get out much? Outside of here, that is?
DOSSIE
Not really…
FRANNIE
Not for years. Dossie did the Euro thing back when our Katie was still a Suit. But…
DOSSIE
We’ve embraced our role here…
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
As have I and thus… well… this is a stretch play…
FRANNIE
Wrangling the guys and…
DOSSIE
Interacting with the customers and the regulars…
FRANNIE

Another pause as Mr Squeek appears to be pondering. Then he pipes up.
MR SQUEEK
Ladies, I have an idea.
DOSSIE

FRANNIE
Whatcha-thinkin’ ?
MR SQUEEK
How about… breaking away for a … a field trip to… The World of Joy?
MR SQUEEK INTERNAL
Quick thinking. Sounds cool. Does it resonate…?
DOSSIE
An off campus adventure, you propose?
MR SQUEEK
Sure… let’s all go, as you say, “off campus” and experience the World of Joy… We can…scout the location … where the Story of Joy takes place.
FRANNIE
Interesting… Sure, why not?
DOSSIE
So, wheels up tomorrow Mr Squeek?
MR SQUEEK
That would be great. Can’t wait to show you…
FRANNIE
I’ll draw us a “Ladies Day Out” napkin and put it where the guys will see.
Mr Squeek sees activity up front near the door (his spot)
