In this episode, Katie goes over-the-hill to do a Duck-n-Pony presentation of her Duckin’ 2.0 (for #DuckDuckJeep) at the JEDEMI CAFE. Will her breakthrough be well received?

Another week has come and gone. This evening, a sizable group has gathered to get their next installment of RC’s “Stories @”THE SEA.”
Again, there’s a slide show projected on sheeting that’s hanging on a clothesline near RC’s spot. The intent is a recap of the story so far, but there’s been a shift… an energetic soundtrack added as well as clips of a break dancing cat.
MR SQUEEK on FAIR
The song? “GET READY FOR THIS” which draws the group closer to where RC is standing. And true to his name, he uses his Remote Control to lower the volume so they can hear him.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So… Ya’ll ready for this?
He looks out and surveys the audience. The LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS is even nodding.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Alrighty then… Let us continue. I’m going to jump
us in where we left off last week…
Our KATIE is at CAT & CLOUD…
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. CAT & CLOUD
KATIE, the former Suit, is finishing up her session at the VIV TABLE before heading back home.
She’s so focused, she doesn’t notice several texts from KIMBERLY, the Happy Barista.
Finally, she gives her phone a look.
KIMBERLY TEXT
Nice Jeep!
She sends a picture and then another message.
KIMBERLY TEXT
Love the Duckies!! Talk soon!
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. KATIE’S WESTSIDE HOUSE
She has returned from her Jeep Excursion and timeout at Cat & Cloud super-energized. Racing into her house, she drops off the bag of bagels in the kitchen and races upstairs to her office.
Looking at her phone, she scrolls through her pictures.
KATIE INTERNAL
I’ll forward Kimberly’s text first as the
picture she took and comments are share-worthy.
Then I’ll tease.
KATIE TEXT
Trying out something. You want to take a look?
The reply was nearly immediate.
MEREDITH’S TEXT
Sure! Zoom? In person?
A few more text messages are exchanged before settling on a when (as the where is obviously JEDEMI CAFE).
A smiling Katie stands up to stretch. The sound of applause can be heard.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT.WESTSIDE BREW PUB
RC breaks the wall to talk to his audience.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Just to note, I dropped in on Ms Katie at this point
to see how she was doing. Let’s just call it a moment
of re-assurance. Then I stepped back and let her fly…
as in over the hill to pitch her ideas to Kee-Ra’s human,
Meredith who happens to be a very sharp marketing guru.
So this is sort of a marketing meets marketing meetup
leveraging the tools of their trade…
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Yikes! PowerPoint?! As in,“Death by PowerPoint”?
RC THE STORYTELLER
Settle down you… Remember these are both
experienced marketing folks who have counseled
clients away from using the dreaded mega-deck.
Ms Katie just finds it easier to do mock-ups with
either PowerPoint or Apple’s Keynote… Got it?
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
Okay… Comforting… Very comforting…
But wait a minute… Why is she doing a deck?
Why isn’t she just showing her concept on
her Jeep…like using the Jeep?
The audience is murmuring in agreement.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Please…Let me continue, for that answer
will be unveiled is a wee bit.
They settle down.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So, when I dropped in on Ms Katie, she
was “en fuego”… and I mostly observed
until a finally saw an opening…
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. KATIE’S HOME OFFICE
RC THE GREMLIN
Wow, Ms. Katie! You are on a roll and
then some. Love the concept… Care to share
the GP for the unveil?
KATIE
Well, RC… I’m … reigning myself in as…
Well… You know how many times as a Suit
I galloped along with, in my mind, break-through
ideas… bursting into a room like the Kool-Aid guy
with my version of “Here it is! This is it!
This is the one! Come see!”

KATIE
In retrospect… how annoying I must have been.
No wonder like 9 times out of 10, I’d be ushered
out with a To-Do list to get me to slow my roll.
So to answer your Game Plan question, I’m going
to slow-roll it to Ms Meredith… see how she
reacts to the concept.
RC THE GREMLIN
So… that means you’re leaving the Jeep in the
Jedemi parking lot for dog & pony [slash] show & tell?
No drive about yet like you just did??
KATIE
Uh… not quite, RC. Slow-Roll means
first exposure is “Deck Only” then allowing for
time to ponder.
RC THE GREMLIN
Por que WHY?!?
KATIE
NOT. TIME. YET.
RC THE GREMLIN
Whaddaya mean? It’s a perfect time. Go in the middle
of the day. Heck you can put the top up and leave the
side skins out for air flow. Still feels “Jeepy”…
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
RC talks directly to the audience.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So… I tried to get her to do her POC using the Jeep,
but she seemed hell bent. Then I switched the subject
to something I thought WAS doable…
RC reaches into his SATCHEL-PAK and removes a JOURNAL.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Suggested it was a good time to introduce Meredith to
the Joys of the JOURNAL and daily musings.
Figure if she’s going to be of any value on this DuckDuck SLASH
DUCKIE SLASH PELI-DUCKIE thing, she’d need a means for
purging whatever is clogging her mind… So there’s FLO…
He reads the room for a beat and then continues.
RC THE STORYTELLER
Oh… maybe I forgot to mention it… You see, her
new pal, Meredith is a transitioning Suit… so Katie
is kinda showing her the way while also
tapping into her expertise.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Ah!
RC THE STORYTELLER
So after queuing everything up, staging what she needs
for the Duck-n-Pony, Ms Katie clears her head with a
leisurely run on West Cliff.
A voice pipes up.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1
Ah! Definitely ready for this.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
While they are “Yeah-ing,” RC steps off and takes a sip from his beverage.
LISTENER IN THE SHADOWS
You’re… not stopping now are you? At least get
us to… How’d things go at Jedemi?
Putting his drink down, RC paces a little.
RC THE STORYTELLER
So… a preview, you want, huh?
You want to know… now? Ya can’t wait??
He moves about putting the Journal back into the PAK and then from the speakers, the ROCKY THEME SONG comes on.
The audience’s attention is drawn to the screen where they get to experience the DECK as presented by Ms Katie.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. JEDEMI CAFE
Meredith and Katie are in the parking lot wrapping
up their discussion.
MEREDITH
Wow. I’m impressed with what you came up with
… inspired with the all the angles you covered.
KATIE
My brain wouldn’t let go of the “Then what?”
aspect of “Duck Duck Jeep”…
MEREDITH
You know… it would really help to have the…
how did you call it? Stunt magnets put to use…
Driving around with stunt magnets and checking
the reaction.
Katie smiles as she recognizes how simpatico they are when comes to marketing.
KATIE
I know. I know. Crossed my mind, but… Maybe…
Just then a familiar looking Black Jeep Wrangler enters the parking lot. They both look over and watch as it pulls up.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. WESTSIDE BREW PUB
RC the Storyteller picks up his drink again.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
And…??
RC THE STORYTELLER
Okay… Katie’s husband AKA THE GEAR GUY, shows up
in Katie’s Jeep.
AUDIENCE IN UNISON
And…??
RC THE STORYTELLER
Come back next week… Please…
RC bows and then picks up fresh HumbleSea beverage which is handed to him from one of the audience members.
On the screen is now projected that break dancing cat. And the Speakers pump the “Kill the Lights” song.
After a couple of minutes this appears on the screen:
FADE OUT.
