Red Bull for Dogs? Not Exactly…

199706-petrol_dog_drinkHere’s something different… Looks like there is a new doggy drink called Petrol that comes in aluminum cans. The press release says it is “a dog treat beverage” which is now available in 12 oz. Rexam SLEEK(TM) cans.

Petrol is formulated by a veterinary nutrition expert, and contains 100 percent natural flavorings plus six added vitamins and minerals for optimum canine health and wellness. Unlike other dog treats that are highly processed and loaded with fat and calories, Petrol contains no preservatives, no artificial colors, no meat or meat by-products, and is just eight calories per serving. In scientific studies, dogs preferred the taste of Petrol 4-to-1 over regular water.

Petrol is available now, for a suggested retail price of $3.00 per can, at select retailers nationwide and online at

I first learned of Petrol from a story appearing in Packaging Digest that noted how
Petrol worked with Rexam’s Graphic Art and Printing Plate Operation in Elk Grove, IL, to set the color and graphic tolerances for perfect reproduction of the Petrol brand on aluminum cans. Rexam has the only company-owned, integrated graphic art and printing plate operation, complete with a manufacturing pilot line, to set these standards confidentially with customers, before mass production.

For pet owners, the important thing is that Petrol chose to launch its unique pet product in the Rexam SLEEK can because of its portability for pet owners on the go, plus its recyclability. The aluminum beverage can has a recycle rate at more than double any other beverage package. It also keeps beverages fresh and cold longer, is easily portable and has a great look and feel that stands out on retail shelves.

So will 4 out of 5 doggies prefer Petrol over water? Only time will tell.
