Yosh ! Visualize This PLUS a Walkabout Ding!

Welcome to the first of our Yosh! posts.

As Katie and friends roll along embracing the manga stories of Master Tezuka and Master Toriyama, they are also picking up on the infectious enthusiasm of the characters they’ve encountered.

The Japanese word “Yosh” is used in manga to convey, “Alright, let’s go!” Or as they say in Katie’s household: “Go means go!”

Above is a short clip that says what we’re saying (and demonstrating): For sure, “yosh” is spontaneous and energetic—a verbal burst of enthusiasm or resolve. We believe if you embrace the DragonBustR Way and it becomes a Way of Life (interwoven), you may find yourself bursting with enthusiasm and resolve.

Katie’s Walkabout Ding!

FADE IN:

INT. KATIE’S HOME OFFICE

Former Suit, KATIE is clearing her email and taking care of her “housekeeping” items — crossing off the To Dos. After a period of time, she stands to stretch.

KATIE
That should do it!

Thinking and speaking out loud, her words are heard by her steady companion, RC the GREMLIN.

RC THE GREMLIN
Yeah, my Lady? Where to next?

KATIE
Oh… Hey, there RC. How long have I been ignoring you this time?

RC THE GREMLIN
Not long. Just got here. Did a lap through town and the Westside this AM. Glad I had layers… It’s getting chillier these days.

KATIE
Right? Was thinking of heading over the hill… and funny enough… my GP was to channel my inner RC.

RC THE GREMLIN
Uh… meaning?

KATIE
Walk-about near JEDEMI. It’s been a while since I did the urban walk and I DO enjoy some of the neighborhoods. AND… people are starting to put their Halloween lights up and decorations.

RC THE GREMLIN
Then hang time at the VIV TABLE?

KATIE
Yeah for a bit. Get some writing in and… it’s time to break out my SLABBY THING. It’s been collecting dust.

As they are talking, they’ve moved from Katie’s office to the kitchen where Katie is rinsing her coffee cup. She points to the pot.

RC THE GREMLIN
Nah! Filled up in town. The pour-overs at really good down at the Santa Cruz Coffee Roaster.

KATIE
A walkabout discovery?

RC THE GREMLIN
Uh… yes and…

Katie glances at the clock.

KATIE
Burnin’ daylight. You coming along?

RC THE GREMLIN
Tempting, but… Things to tend to on this side.

KATIE
Gotcha. See ya when I see ya!

RC THE GREMLIN
Not if I see ya first.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL

So former Suit, KATIE made her way over the hill. Parking in the side lot near JEDEMI, she begins her walkabout navigating the side streets and taking in the visuals. It’s different enough from her WESTSIDE abode that it perhaps has a transcendent feel — which “suits” her just fine.

On her way back to JEDEMI, she is drawn towards a section called OLD TOWN, which she studies with her eyes.

Katie muses. Talking to herself as she takes in what she sees.

KATIE INTERNAL
Things have… Wow… Not how I remembered at all…

She continues walking around and peeking into windows.

KATIE INTERNAL
It’s like an entirely different world… Then again, who am I kidding? Lucky JEDEMI is still there after all these years — my touchstone. Still… I wonder…

Katie finds her way to the underside of OLD TOWN.

KATIE INTERNAL
It’s here… Should be… Where that…

As she walks, she sees windows papered over with nature scenes and some promoting events in OLD TOWN’s square.

KATIE INTERNAL
Huh… I wonder…?

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. JEDEMI CAFE

Katie has made her way back to JEDEMI. Seeing the VIV TABLE open, she smiles and then heads to the counter to order.

Upon returning, she settles in… JOURNAL open and SLABBY THING (iPad) next to it. Just as she’s about to put pencil to paper, she feels a slight breeze.

Looking up, she sees JEDEMI OWNER, NICOLE has zipped by to help a customer out. Katie smiles and returns to her JOURNAL when she feels a tap on the shoulder… from Nicole.

NICOLE
Ah… Getting your mid-week JEDEMI BREAK a little earlier in the day, eh?

Katie smiles.

KATIE
Felt compelled to … have a walkabout… some ponder time with a change of scenery.

NICOLE
Good to see you ANY time… The MOCHA CHAI treating you well?

Workin’ the Magic…

She points to the nearly empty glass, which Katie holds up.

KATIE
The best!

NICOLE
Okay… I’ll let you get back to it.

Nicole scurries off and Katie, looking at her Journal then at her Slabby Thing, gets up and stretches.

KATIE INTERNAL
Not feeling it quite yet.

She scans the room (AKA JEDEMI ANNEX) and sees a CART with books on it.

KATIE INTERNAL
Interesting… I wonder if…?

Making her way over to the cart, she studies the contents on top as the comb-bound documents draw her eyes. And on cue, owner Nicole zips by again.

NICOLE
Found them in VIV’S OFFICE. She said the top are REFERENCE LIBRARY… read here material and the bottom… LENDING LIBRARY.

KATIE
Gotcha!

Nicole zooms away and Katie starts browsing.

KATIE INTERNAL
Too funny… to see them resurfacing after all these years.

Flipping to one of the marked pages of TAMING OF VIV, she scans and smiles.

KATIE INTERNAL
Ah! Interesting…

Still standing, she flips some more and reads some more.

KATIE INTERNAL
Yup! Very interesting…

KATIE INTERNAL
I wonder if…?

She returns to her seat and settles into her Journal writing.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. JEDEMI CAFE – ANNEX

A short while later, Katie is wrapping up her MUSINGS (with her pencil’s down drawing), when Owner Nicole zooms by again and thunks a stapled document on the table.

NICOLE
Special delivery!

Katie stands to stretch and reaches for the document. She studies it closely.

NICOLE
Remember writing this? You gave me a first draft. It’s really good. I know you got busy after that…

Katie smiles and shakes her head.

KATIE
Too weird…

She makes the DING! signal with her thumb touching the top of her head, and pinky finger skyward.

NICOLE
What the DING!? Haven’t seen that… since VIV retired.

KATIE
You’ll probably see a lot more of it… as the DING!Thing is an area of focus for me now… in my current prOject. That being said…

PrOject in PrOcess…

Katie flips through the stapled document and pauses at a few pages.

NICOLE
Never published, right?

KATIE
I might not have the digital file … it was so long ago. Feels like it could have been backed up on a floppy disk.

She’s smiling…

KATIE
I owe you… an explanation of… why the DING! ? Got a couple of minutes?

Katie motions to the chair at the VIV TABLE and Nicole, after scanning the room and the front counter, sits — leaning forward at full attention.

KATIE
I told you I was on a walkabout… Started scoping out the houses to the left of THE AVENUE, and then I felt … compelled to walk through OLD TOWN for old time sake.

Nicole nodded.

NICOLE
Oh… heard lots has changed. Haven’t had time to scope it out.

KATIE
I found myself wandering around… looking for CHEF’s place — and a rush of memories came over me.

She points to the JOURNAL. It’s in there. Just wrote about it and then THUNK, you drop the DRAFT onto the table.

Nicole smiles.

NICOLE
Ah! The VIV EFFECT, eh?

KATIE
Well… For sure, she was definitely dialed into the DING!THING… Which is THE THING, I’m working on… perhaps…

NICOLE
Channeling OUR INNER VIV, don’t overthink. I mean… we know DING!happens when the conditions are right… right?

KATIE
Indeed.

Nicole looks over at the front counter and stands up.

NICOLE
Gotta hop. Don’t overthink… and perhaps… YOU might benefit from re-engaging with YOUR earlier works… Just sayin…

KATIE
Gotcha! Thanks so much for…

Before the sentence is completed, Nicole has jammed out of ear-range. Just then, the SATCHEL-PAK TIMER goes off.

DBRs Timer…

Katie puts the draft of THE TAMING OF THE CHEF in the PAK and clears her table.

She’s about to head out the door, when she spins around and makes a beeline for the ANNEX CART. Pulling out her phone, she takes a picture of the POST-IT pages.
