Pondering Travel for the Homebound…

TC has found another way to get his travel “fix” via YouTube. Vicarious enjoyment PLUS the “long tail” allows him to “get to” places he may never have even considered. Read on and then… watch on! – the editor

Record highs in the 110-teens (?!?!!).

Since I moved to Nevada back in 2007, I have never had a summer with such record high temperatures like this year. Between my current status as a mobility-challenged person and these stupid high temps, any kind of out-of-home adventure (whether it is to a doctor’s appointment or to pick up groceries) screams out “less is best!”

For sure, fewer trips of any kind are in my future.

That’s SO. NOT. ME. !

But, it IS. REALITY.

For those who know me, I loved to travel (hop on a plane and fly away) especially to see family and friends, and to explore new cities and states. Any chance I got, I was on the move. However, as mentioned in previous posts, those days are gone as travel of this nature requires a coordinated effort, along with a small village / support team to get me through.

What’s a Housebound Traveler to Do?

Those who know me ALSO know, I’d figure out something to get my fix — and a grand fix it is!!

A shout-out here for a couple that I never personally met: Jeb and Suzanne Brooks. Jeb, with his wife Suzanne have produced a series of YouTube videos from their Greenergrass.com website. They give “unscientific” reviews of air travel, cruises, and train trips to/from all over the world.

I’m describing these as experiments — but really, they give themselves “throw-down challenges.”

One I enjoyed was when they tried to travel through every airline hub (American, Delta, and United) in a day or two. And not just the “biggies.” They also tried all the ULCC** airlines, comparing services of Allegiant, Frontier, and Spirit Airlines. They also embraced their inner John Candy: Planes and Trains…

Their train adventures included utilizing the various rail lines and overnight service of Amtrak, and in Australia/New Zealand.

The humility Jeb and Suzanne have for their travels make the adventures very relatable. It is like an old friend you meet up to visit.

I wish I was still working at the airport to hope the next time they visit Las Vegas I could see them…

The various AVGeeks as they like to be called, post many reviews on new aircraft and services. Hawaiian Airlines introduction of their new Boeing 787 Dreamliner services with the new business class suites had many jumping aboard the first flights between Honolulu and San Fransisco.

I enjoy iTripReport along with adventures as the most seasoned international AvGeek Sam Chui.

That’s a Wrap…

Words don’t cut it when it comes to adventures and I can honestly say, this new visual buffet has taken the place of watching Guy Fieri and his Diners,Drive-ins, and Dives.

In closing, I highly encourage you to experience this form of adventure for yourself. Let me know what you think!
Thanks for reading and pondering with me. —TC
