When the trailer came out several weeks ago, Mr Pete circled the date on his calendar AFTER doing a bit of drill down. He knew that this Netflix original fit all his “food groups” : a based on true story film with superior casting, a passionate director and… the food!! Read on for Part 1 of his WowMe and, for sure, there will be a Part 2 with reaction post screening. -the editor
Passion mixed with tradition and seasoned with Love, will create a “Fantastico!” moveable feast.
The experience of the process in creating this feast is a spiritually rewarding one.
The creators [of this experience] challenge the five senses.
The kitchen is a temple. Shared memories, gossip, barked instructions and thinly disguised insults are the prayers.
We gather at the dining table in search of our salvation… to acknowledge our humanity. To praise/worship or to curse/condemn the gifts that are bestowed on us by these earthbound Angels.
IF WE are LUCKY (and BLESSED!), we are invited to RETURN!
This experience is a memorable one.
It can shadow the sadness (post funeral gatherings),
Embrace the joy (wedding receptions).
Make the ordinary, extraordinary.
These moments are what makes LIFE worth living for…
A Significant Sunday Gathering…
A few years back the show-runners of the extremely popular TV show “Blue Bloods” were considering a major change in their scripts. The show, having run for several years, was at the risk of becoming stale.
Some soulless person suggested the writers consider dropping the “Sunday Dinner Gathering” scenes, if not dropping all together, at least scaling back.
The fan-base quickly rejected that idea with many expressing that that was their favorite part of the show.
To this day Blue Bloods (ending its run last December after 14 years) runs in syndication on the ION network, unedited for ALL to enjoy.
Nonnas are GrandMothers – An important part of the traditional family structure. Often we are not aware of the glory of their gifts till they have passed on.
This new Netflix movie titled “Nonnas”, timed for Mother’s Day Weekend (May 9 release) is something I’m looking forward to as I especially enjoy movies based on true stories.
When I first saw the trailer, I thought about this picture I shared with my editor (sister sibling) last year.
The casting looks phenomenal! The food… Always a winner.
Check it out here and here!
Per the Entertainment Weekly piece”
“The nonnas are the beating hearts of the film, the creamy ricotta-cheese fillings inside cannolis: Joe hires four disparate but formidable ones to cook up love on a plate: Roberta (Lorraine Bracco), Antonella (Brenda Vaccaro), Teresa (Talia Shire), and Gia (Susan Sarandon). Talk about “an embarrassment of riches,” Chbosky quips. Casting, he says, “was a process of saying, ‘Please, God?’ and then they said yes,” he says, still flummoxed that he landed Hollywood royalty.”
I particularly enjoy a movie when it is based on a True Story.
That’s a Wrap!
I’m so wowed in anticipation of this Netflix original!! Join me in screening. Comment below and we can compare notes.
Arrivederci for now. –Mr Pete
