The Laptop Takeover...

Peg Here. I swiped Tom’s laptop this afternoon because since two weeks ago, he has been ignoring me, like he did last year. I was expecting to spend time with him since late July.
Now he has been spending all day from 7 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon with that damn headset on. Watching a computer.

What gives?

Oh wait a minute. He used to do this before. Oh yeah, from the crack of dawn till the afternoon, and then he takes me off and goes to bed.
Do I smell? Is the honeymoon over?

TC
Why are you so glum?

Peg
Did I offend you or something?

TC
What are you talking about?

Peg
We used to hang out more. Now you are ignoring me, all I do is face the wall and that damn trash can.

TC
Huh?

Peg
Yeah, at least I can get a glimpse of the TV, those need small TV’s on your desk and tiny and the show is terrible.

TC
Show?

Peg
Yeah, all I see is the same few people and I cannot hear what they are saying, and a bunch of screens with gibberish. At least I can understand Facebook and your emails.

TC
Oh, you are being silly, Peg. You haven’t arrived the last time I did this.

Peg
Old habits!

TC
Necessary training! I told you I got a new job.

Peg
I think I heard you mentioning that.

TC
A man’s gotta eat! Those deliveries from Smith’s and Albertsons don’t pay for themselves.

Peg
Pay? I thought you got food on your good looks?

TC
Flattery will get you no where. Especially in the middle of a Teams session.

Peg
Teams Session?

TC
I am training remotely form my new job. Along with a class of 12 people and 4 trainers, I am learning all about my new job and how to administer it.

Peg
Is it those damn beds again?

TC
Nope, it is kind of a step up. I am working for a department store called Nordstrom. I will be providing customer service for the Card Services department there.

Peg
Card Services, like in Poker?

TC
No, Silly! I will be providing support for our customers and employees –pertaining the Nordstrom Card and Visa Card.

Peg
Neeto! Like the guy on the phone in that Flintstones clip you showed me last week?

TC
Uh… Sort of… For sure, I am learning a lot about privacy and protection of personal information. My job needs to very discreet with information thus the need for extra time training.

Peg
That makes sense.

TC
Yes, and… I might as well warn you that you’ll be flying solo quite a bit as this training will be lasting well into next month.

Peg
And then?

TC
I will graduate to the phones.

Peg
Oh, like you did before?? …Except no beds, right?

TC
That’s right. No beds. I am excited and nervous. There are a lot of changes.

Peg
My turn for “Yes, and…” This is a a good thing, Buddy!

Well that explains why Tom has been ignoring me…

Well that explains why Tom has been ignoring me. He is now on to another new chapter in his (and/ or our) life. I guess you do need to teach old dogs new tricks, so to say. Well, at least to collect a paycheck (joy for us!!).

I will keep an eye on him. He will need my support more now than ever.
